NASCAR at LeMans

How long before we see a nascar class at the Rolex? I mean with what Jim does over there and this project it only seems like the next logical step

That's impressive.

Like seriously, I would have not imagined it to be that close.
I think this is the first comparison that has some value. If that's what they're getting now, I'm optimistic for better by the time they get there.

Apparently Daniel Ricciardo was originally approached about the third seat and turned it down. Too bad that guy isn’t serious about racing anymore.

I’ll gladly take Button though.

I wouldn't say not serious about racing, he's just strictly focused on F1. However, with the amount of money he made at Renault and McLaren, he's probably chilling for now.

Gotta link?
MP: Jenson, who’s friends with Jimmie, got introduced to the G56 folks and was quickly invited to join the roster. An overall Le Mans winner, a 7X NASCAR champ, and an F1 champ all bringing a lot of interest to the project. I’d heard Daniel Ricciardo was also approached but he turned it down which, for the life of me, I can’t figure out.

Spec sheet. They trimmed the weight down pretty well:

Only thing I’m wondering is what happened to the hybrid component? I thought that was a big part of the point of the project at the beginning. Still a super cool project but they hyped that up a lot last spring when it was announced. I can’t complain about them turning up the current powerplant though.

The engine isn't turned up that much on this car compared to what we see every week.

Seriously, its really not.

Kinda surprising, what would you say it is? I thought it’s been mentioned that they opened up the power some to help get competitive.

I believe it was cutting more weight that gave them the speed increase they were looking for.
Yeah, I imagine most of the time gained is through aero and weight reduction but I think Rocky and someone else mentioned they added power too.

*Cough* around 705 to 710 *Cough*
I thought one of the reasons why they kept it at 670 was reliability. If they can run a 705 hp engine for a 24 hour race they might as well run a bunch of 3 hour races with 850 hp (or at least try to):p

The car weighs 238 kg less than a regular cup car. Would be great to see some information where they managed to drop that weight and if the same thing could be done for Cup races in the future.

Between this project and the new Hypercars I'm looking forward to Le Mans a lot. Haven't been this hyped for that race since at least 2017.

Give a listen to the latest episode of DJD they had both Chad and JJ discussing the garage 56 effort
