Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

$$$$$$$. Nobody has any more respect for Roger Penske than I do, but he's getting everything he deserves for running off a driver that can actually DRIVE to bring in this silver spoon poser of a race car driver.
Harrison Burton wouldn’t qualify for a valet at my local steak joint.

Is it because you dislike Matt the driver, or Matt the person?
Wasn't going even going to even bring up Matt.

These cars are about as different from what they are accustomed in the likes of trucks or Xfinity now, even someone as detailed and a student of the game as Ty Gibbs is still struggling to wrap his head around these cars. It's not easy at the highest levels, but its like anything else. The results will have to come on, but I'm not writing off any of the youngsters that are in the field just yet. Gilliland and HB both probably needed another year of seasoning prior, but here they are.

Shown some flashes, but they have not learned to put it altogether yet. It takes time and honestly with the lack of testing as once we were accustomed to seeing back in the day, I can see why younger drivers struggle more adjusting now in days.

Josh Berry just got a top ten in somebody else's car. Austin Cindric won in his first full time start. Burton wasn't even noteworthy in the best Xfinity cars on the planet.

Some are going to get it, some aren't.

Not saying it excuses anybody, but considering it was a brand new car, the likes of WBR and Front Row were of course going to show some patience with their drivers. Yeah, Josh certainly was impressive and Austin won at Daytona. However, the situation for every team is different and Harrison has funding for WBR to continue what they need to do. If Harrison doesn't show any growth after this season, I would expect him to not be there come next season. Same with others, but every team is in a different situation and some leashes are longer than others.

It will boil down to results at the end of the day.

Thanks I needed a good laugh

Matt D in the 21 car in 2021. 9 top 5's average finish 16.9, 2 DNF.
Harrison in the 21 car in 2022. 2 top tens, average finish 22.8, DNF 7.

If Matt would have had Hassler for a crew chief all season, those numbers would show an even wider gap.

Well, you nailed it, Burton is there because of funding. Without it, I don't think he would even get a second look at the Cup level.

You just don't get it, probably never will. Penske didn't like Matt

Remember Cindric did sign on to drive the 21.

Matt was done either way, just that situation made it expedited the process for him to be cut. Man had a full fiscal year to figure out he was going to do and complained the entire time. I did feel for him at one point, but his stupidity made him unmarketable.

I thought Harrison was going to be alright coming up….He underwhelmed in trucks but I thought he turned a corner in 2020, won 4 races and drove pretty good. I didn’t think he was ready after 2021 and it continues to show he isn’t

hilarious and ridiculous at the same time that nascar thinks handing down a 2 lap penalty and whatever week of vacations for team members is going to bring a stop to this. That'll show them to keep the aluminum wheel from breaking next time!

They didn't get the lug nut tight.

So what happened anyway? I thought last week one of our experts here said it was ok because William wins once a year? Not once a week.
Gimme a Hell yea!

Also next week remember who won spring Atlanta last year.

Remember old saying, easier to slow down a fast driver than speeding up a slow one.

Didn’t think it was a barnburner by any stretch of the imagination but I’m kinda surprised at how bad some of the reception to this race is. Maybe expectations are too high these days. The track seemed wider and tire wear higher than last year. And a driver catching and passing for the lead over a full tire run and some change is an improvement over last year.

Certainly don’t think Phoenix is championship weekend caliber though.
