Chicago Street Race Pre-Race Thread

Ignorant opinion - If they can't get it in tomorrow, I'd double up at Atlanta next week. Start the X race early on Saturday and run the Cup race in the X window. The X race is scheduled for 8pm on USA, and that broadcast schedule is easier to push around than NBC's. Atlanta is relatively close to Charlotte, in case a Cup team has problem Saturday and needs parts brought from Charlotte for Sunday. Then run the Sunday race as scheduled. Set the Cup fields both days based on metrics, since there wouldn't be time for P & Q.

With the usual disclaimer that I abhor plate racing.

The rain is forecast to stop early this evening. Monday is clear and sunny, assuming they can get this circuit dry.
I work Monday and definitely won't be able to catch any of it.

Really hoping they get it in tonight.

The forecast that I've seen shows the rain stopping by about 6:00 p.m. local time.

Allow a couple of hours to dry the track and, like the local street racers do all the time, let them race on a track illuminated by the street lights that line the track. :puffin:

Doesn't need to be dry, just can't be a monsoon.
Thanks, I keep forgetting rain tires are finally an option.

Indy starts on USA at 2:00 at Mid-Ohio for your road course craving. If you haven't checked these guys out lately, this is a good track to give them a look.

Serious question for those familiar with the area - did the track retaining walls contribute to the local flooding? How well does this area drain normally under this amount of rain?

They’d run it on the Sims and William Byron would score his 4th win of the season.
Then DQ'ed for illegal software on sim. Jeffy and Chadly go ****house again. The Felon wins on appeal, and is awarded a Chain Smokers concert for their trouble.

It's too bad weather turned this into a complete cluster. I hope this doesn't result in NASCAR abandoning street races.
Nah they'll for sure do another, and probably run it back here. The turn out was good and people seemed positive about it enough. They'll sit down with the city and see where they land I'm sure.

I could see them trying once more, and then going back to Chicagoland once they've built up a local fanbase.

What I'd like to see:

Go back to Road America for Fourth of July, make it permanent. Replace Atlanta with Chicagoland Speedway. Abandon Auto Club Speedway and race at Long Beach instead.

“They have rain tires why aren’t they using them?!” Is all I’m seeing on social media lol. It’s a little thing called standing water and cars hydroplaning. They would have to creep around the track to basically run it with how much water was out there

They have to get all of the Xfinity stuff packed up and loaded out for the Cup race to get their stuff in place. That is going to take some time. I'm pretty sure everybody is dodging the jet dryers besides.

There was a shot of a vacuum truck sucking a street drain , right next to a retention wall. Pretty plugged up if a truck has to clear it...

Same people who drive through flooded roads, I'm guessing.

Yeah probably, definitely would not shock me. Like I’m disappointed that the race didn’t get to really show us anything, but I rather it be like this than someone get hurt because of some wreck caused by the rain and all the water on the road

Rain trying to circle back around to the track. I’m not there, so I don’t know what the track looks like. However, based on how it looked earlier, I have to imagine that more heavy rain would put an end to all hopes of getting this race in.

Has this been canceled yet?

Road America, you say? 😇

I can live with all the mispronunciations of Chicago (my home town) that I've heard, but on NASCAR RaceDay on FS1, Kaitlyn Vincie just made reference to the race being held in the state of "Illi-noise."

:owquitit:
There is no Noise in Illinois.
