WOW, Eddie Gossage just went there!

This year I don't think it was the case but clearly Denny's own mind is his worst enemy. Listen to his podcast all post season talking about how the championship is mickey mouse. It was like he was already making excuses and admitting defeat

I am not the biggest fan of Hamlin and I dont like some of the stuff he does either.
But I think Gossage is just piling on with nothing more than an opinion. Just a part of the echo chamber.

Sounds right to me….lol. And love the pic. What that his Logano impersonation interview? Just another example of his limited mindset that may be holding him back.

This first thing I thought of is how unprofessional it was for someone like Gossage to comment the way he did and that goes for any driver. On the other hand Gossage is just a snake oil salesman in a suit so it isn’t wise to pay any attention to what he says.

“Non-competition items” Gossage elaborated about on F*cebook include Denny’s golf league, basketball league, podcasting, and being an NBA fan. Even dumber.
As opposed to other drivers who play golf, snowboard, fish, hunt, race in other series, raise kids, and watch other sports.

Denny's single biggest problem is he still can't get on and off pit road without speeding several times a season. Figuring that out would be worth at least 50 points a year and probably a win.

It’s not even like he choked, he just got beat yesterday.

If not for the mechanical issue at Homestead, Denny is in the Championship Four.

What goes around comes around. Hamlin wants to be a media darling, tries to act like he is the voice of Nascar (it's a hard road with gerbil Burton thinking he is) calls other drivers names, and that comes with a price. A lot of people, me included don't like his ass.

Oh, he's undeniably a genuine Biblical beast of burden, for sure. He's also undeniably one of the top five drivers currently in the series.

Hamlin is a very talented driver, but he's a moron, it's as simple as that. When it comes to the ultimate prize, he will always be a loser because he just doesn't have it between the ears. But he's a successful driver, a successful owner, and he's entertaining enough that he got his own show. I don't like him one bit and I'll always root against him, but you can't deny that he's good for the sport.

You sound like one of those people who will excuse any type of behavior because he can play the damn game. Surely not. I personally think Hamlin has done more harm than good. Nothing tragic or anything like that, but he is a pain in the ass and like many others is always trying to find something wrong so he can go in public and run his blunder buss mouth to people who can't do a damn thing about it.

I'm not excusing him. I'm only pointing out that he can be both an ass and a great driver at the same time. Being either doesn't prevent being the other. In Denny's case, apparently being a great driver is easier than being a decent guy to hang around with. Sooner or later his days in the car will be over, and he'll get to use his charming personality to front his bidnesses.

Somehow, Kyle Larson participating in Denny’s golf league didn’t prevent him from winning a title.

The whole statement is disingenuous as to how much goes into winning a title; it’s not just either choking or being clutch. The only times you can really probably say he lost himself a title was in 2010, when he entered up 15 points on JJ, qualified poorly, and spun off of Biffle very early in the race and damaged the splitter; and in 2017 when he deservedly got paid back by Elliott at Phoenix for the dump at Martinsville. Otherwise, it’s just been a case of poor luck or someone else being the better car/driver/team on a given day.

2014 he was 1A and 1B with Harvick at Homestead but was at a tire strategy disadvantage on the final restarts, 2019 he was chasing down Kyle Busch for the win before the infamous tape debacle on the final pit stop, the next two years Hendrick simply were better at Phoenix, and last year he was eliminated by an improbable move which will quite literally never happen again. There is honestly not much you can blame him for in the crucial moments.

I think it was dumb to declare it was his year earlier in the playoffs - for the same reason you’d never want your QB to declare the Super Bowl is yours after winning the Wild Card game - but it’s not like he collapsed this time either.

Gossage is claiming this to be the chatter amongst those in the garage and within the sport. One can say he’s lying or exaggerating, but it doesn’t surprise me or seem hard to believe. As much as most fans do not like him, he can’t be very well admired amongst the many he harasses weekly on the track.

This.

Dennis is a negative a**hole who panders to the most negative elements of the fanbase. But he’s neck and neck with Mark Martin as the best driver to have never won a championship.

I guess Denny being sort of easy to rag on exposes a vulnerability to be hyperbolic in some of us. 😝 I don’t think he directly influenced his title ambitions this time.

I wish I could like this post many times as it is factual & fair.

People act like Denny has made a career out of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory which is not true as you’ve shown.I know people don’t like Denny for various reasons but it is no reason to distort his record.

I see I've been summoned.

1990 Winston Cup Champion.
Martin as the 1990 champion is one of the most if not the most ridiculous revisionist history claims ever...after Richmond there were 27 races remaining...if Martin couldn't make that it up, he was destined to just finish second again...like he did in 94 and 98 and 02 an 09...what's the excuse for him not winning those seasons? Maybe just not good enough? Facts are tough..

It's not about yesterday, it's about 19 years with a top 3 team and never winning a championship

He had an illegal carburetor spacer and was penalized according to the rules.

And his penalty was 46 points and it took over 4000 points to win the championship...

Richmond wasn’t the only screw job that year.
