With today's cars, yes.

If we had more horsepower, and power to accelerate and make passes with a faster car like pre 2018, no.

Stage breaks are a bandaid to mask the difficulties these cars have with passing

Any high school kid that took a practical Physics course knows that aero forces increase with higher speeds or simply clean air is king or the faster you go the worse it gets for passing attempts.
Back to the topic, stages were invented to reduce the commercial problem that fans were loudly complaining about. Full screen commercials were dominating the races covering up over a third of the racing time.
Stage cautions allowed commercials to be shown during cautions without covering up the racing. A bonus are the restarts when many passes are attempted before aero becomes more of a factor and the air gets dirtier.
It didn't take long the last experiment with stageless road racing, proved that stages can actually add to the strategies of the teams instead of reducing them. Added restarts always increases the drama level of a race. They aren't fake or a gimmick, they are included as part of the racing, like points or pitting.
 
The stages provide some exciting racing during the race rather than just logging laps. But there shouldn't be a caution, it reduces the strategy options for the teams.

Correct, but for 5 years NASCAR has been making moves to INCREASE mid corner speed. More downforce, less horsepower, more tire surface on the track. All contribute to higher corner speeds. Back in the early 2000s at tracks like Michigan they were at 205 into turn 1, but mid corner speeds were 140ish. Now they’re at 190 down the straightaways and 175 in the corner. Dirty air is worse at 175 than 140. Slow the cars down mid corner by taking tire and downforce away and adding horsepower and watch the problem solve itself. Especially since they solved the side force issue they had with the gen 6 that didn’t allow them to run side by side.

Less downforce, not more is what it is at the present time. The cars now are within 7 or 8 horsepower from each other now Rick Hendrick said. I myself don't have any problems with passing numbers, it's the best it has been in years and it really shows on the multiple line tracks. People living in a dream world thinking there will ever be tons of passing on single lane small tracks. There never has been. The show on those tracks are lap after lap of trying to pass and maybe it does happen or not. (unless you are Kyle Larson at Wilkesbourgh)

Mid corner speeds at MIS were not in the 140s. A 60 mph discrepancy? This isn’t a road course

Such a bad post. Aero impact was so bad you couldn't pass, sure you had HP but the entry speeds and heavily yawed design made it so you can only run one groove. Couldn’t pass unless you had significantly more speed, hence why winning streaks were very common. A team would get an edge and run the sport for a few weeks

That's why I posted the pics. Some when going down nostalgia lane having memories of twisted sisters having to slow down to 140 at Michigan are akin to fishing tales lol. How big? It was a whopper lol.
