I remember when EVERY race that was on cable (TNT/SPEED/ESPN) was available on NASCAR.com as well.

My problem is that I can't use Prime Video because of the way I get my internet service.
My computer address is a VPN --- the source of my net is in a city 1.5 hours away from me. I try to watch Prime videos and Amazon asks me to turn off my VPN -- I can't. So anything on Prime is lost to me.

To me, this would be fair:

Fox - Los Angeles, Daytona 500, All-Star Race
Prime Video - Coca-Cola 600
TNT Sports - Chicago Street Race and/or Daytona in July
NBC - Brickyard 400, Southern 500, Playoffs

This way, Fox, Amazon, WB Discovery and NBC all get a marquee event instead of Fox getting everything.

I'm pro-streaming. Like I said, I wish EVERY race had an OTT streaming option.

But NASCAR's about to find out how many of their fans don't have reliable high-speed internet.

North Carolina has a dumbass law that prohibits municipalities from offering high-speed internet, a law that was passed because the City of Wilson was providing internet in places Charter Communications and Lumen Technologies wouldn't offer internet access. There's no incentive in this state, none, to expand rural internet access.
 
Wonder if practice time will be extended now that it is being broadcast by the smaller partners TNT/Amazon? Doubt they would broadcast the entire season of P/Q if it's just an hour or an hour and a half a week. Also TV partners that are relying on P/Q for much of their seasonal content makes me nervous NASCAR might break out the featherless darts again and change practice and qualifying to make it "better".
 
I wonder if Amazon and TNT will hire their own broadcast teams or if they'll retain the Fox and NBC teams. If I'm reading correctly, Amazon is streaming practice and qualifying the first half of the season (Fox's races + their own) while Max is taking the second half (TNT races + NBC races).

We could conceivably end up with four sets of commentary teams and pit reporters next year covering Cup races.

Amazon has a history with both Fox and NBC. NBC currently produces their Thursday Night Football broadcasts. Before that, Amazon Prime simulcasted Fox Sports games and, for Prime exclusive games, it was just a rebranded Fox Sports broadcast.

NBC and TNT have a longstanding history too. TNT actually produced all of NBC's broadcasts from 2001-2006, and then most of those people stayed with TNT. Then, when NBC replaced TNT, some of the on-air personalities and most of the behind-the-scenes people went to NBC. Of course, a few of the people who went from TNT to NBC were already also doing IndyCar coverage on NBCSN.

That's assuming NBCUniversal doesn't buy out WarnerBros. in 2025, as has been discussed in entertainment circles. And probably needs to happen because David Zaslav has run that place so far into the ground that Bugs Bunny now has residence on Earth's Mantle.

Increase plus the Daytona 500 sold out in November 2023 for 2024. Gotta love it!

Strictly a money deal IMO. They probably do have a good relationship with Fox Sports, but that would not overrule a larger $$$ amount from a legit broadcaster. ESPN was never in the picture here, likely not CBS either. I suspect this new setup enables both Fox and NBC to hold the line on a big increase in rights $$$, with a trade off of less races on their schedule. Probably stuck Amazon and TNT with big bills to bring the total take into record territory.
 
I'm pretty sure I haven't looked at TNT since their last race. Positive I've never looked at truTV; isn't that courtroom shows and crime rehashings?

Ratings will be at historic lows in 2025.

I would not be surprised if races on Prime Video got more viewers than FS1, TNT and USA.

The only way you’re reaching a full audience on cable is if you’re on ESPN. And even then, ESPN has been carrying Monday Night Football and other major sporting events on ABC.

That’s about half as many OTA Cup races as there are now (20 down to 9) so I’m surprised by that.

Trucks stay with FOX/FS1.

Cup practice/qualifying (with the exception of Clash, Daytona 500, All-Star activities) will be on Amazon Prime from the start of the season until the end of their 5-race stretch. P&Q will then be carried on Max and truTV for the remainder of the season.

Scattered, back to the days of The ESPN, ESPN2, TNN, NBC, TNT, TBS. I’m amused racing is going to be on TruTV as I thought that channel only existed for 3 weeks in March for the NCAA Tournament

MNF (primary feed) is simulcast on ESPN+ now.

Every ESPN game is on ESPN+.

And NFL also has NFL+, which offers all national games including Prime Video games, and local market games.

NBC isn’t gonna abandon cable altogether because it’s owned by Comcast. But every other sport that have is shown on Peacock. The Olympics and SNF, which are arguably their two strongest properties, are all on Peacock. Comcast is leveraging NASCAR’s older fan base to keep USA afloat.

NASCAR should have forced NBC to simulcast all their races on Peacock.

Fox just sucks. They’re not likely going to enter the streaming wars anytime soon, they’re invested too deep in FS1. And even then, I bet more MLB and USXFL games will be on Fox while NASCAR is relegated to The 1.

In both Fox and NBC’s defense for fewer broadcast races, the races are often too long. Some of these races the past few years have been all night affairs.

My main gripe is the amount of races ONLY on cable.

I don’t see any building for the future or trying to get younger fans here. Their focus is on keeping their much older audience watching. And even then, those people are pissed off because there are only nine races on OTA.

I’m definitely surprised by that one. Seems like most other sports are going for a balance of heading back towards OTA more while incorporating streaming components to a heavier degree. Doubling down on cable is pretty rare at the moment. But I suppose that’s why the money is what it is.

I think the Prime part is great and wish it would’ve been for all ten summer races really.

It's a bit of a mixed bag. Things like the Coliseum and the Chicago Street Race were great ways to engage younger fans and build to the future. Putting more races on cable seems to be the opposite of that.

This was totally a money move. NASCAR will be fine financially but I don't know what happens in 15-20 years.when their fanbase shrinks by natural attrition.

NASCAR was also under an immense amount of pressure from the RTA to bring home the bacon as expeditiously as possible so they can finish with the new charter agreements.

The RTA needs to figure out how to restrain spending among its members. The cost of racing is ridiculous because teams increase their spending and then bitch about the costs.

Are you on a VPN? If yes why cant you disable it? I'm pretty good with troubleshooting these types of problems so if you give me some info I can try to fix your problem if you want me to.

I’ve streamed races on my phone at family parties through my Xfinity Live TV app. Something that couldn’t be done as recent as 10 years ago. I have Xfinity cable and get Max, Peacock with it so I’m good along with being a Prime member. I’d say the need for NASCAR to stream is a bit overblown, just a tad as cable will always be around in some form or fashion.

I got up from my computer and that post timed out so here is the follow to Nature boys Comcast post-

Tell me what the problem is, why is the race not being simulcast on peacock a problem? If you have a provider you can watch the race on their app or the regular channel .I streamed every single race in 2023, even the OTA ones because in my city they moved the signal as far away as possible from the major market so you have to subscribe or build a skyscraper for an antenna mount.
