WNBA 2025

They’re citing a Front Office Sports piece.

Obviously there’s smoke there because there have been vague references for years about her being a locker room cancer, going back to her days in Maryland. LSU was even warned that she’d be a locker room cancer.
I don't follow college hoops, and The Spun's "article" doesn't mention any of that.

In a recent story from Front Office Sports, several sources within the WNBA reportedly expressed concern about how Reese conducts herself away from the basketball court — which could potentially make it harder for the former LSU All-American should she decide to look elsewhere in the W.

"Reese's motor, rebounding, and defense have been heralded by executives and coaches around the league," the publication wrote. "But multiple league sources told FOS their view is that some franchises will weigh her skills on the court against her conduct off of it."

It isn't clear what exactly those sources are referencing, as Reese has never gotten in trouble off the court, but she does have a highly-popular Spotify podcast and is very opinionated on a number of topics.
If you're gonna write a headline about Reese being called out for off-the-court behavior, then state what exactly she's done that's supposedly being called out. The bolded and smoky speculation isn't good enough for me. I'm gonna need more than that.

I was smart this time and didn't click on the On3 article, LOL. The Spun, Athlon Sports, and On3 are all part of the Axis of Clickbait. Reese was apparently automatically suspended for one game for picking up her 8th technical foul, as per the rulebook. Okay, cool. :lol2:

The NY Post article is, unsurprisingly, better than the Spun article and actually explains what the issue is. I don't have a problem with Reese's comments in a vacuum, more so the fact that she apparently made them to a big newspaper. If such a conversation has to be had, it should be had in private IMO, not with the world.

At the same time, as I acknowledged last season, Chicago really isn't a great organization. They tried to get a decent roster around Reese and Cardoso this year, but there's a reason why they've lost so many good players over the last few years. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see Reese, Cardoso, Atkins, Sloot, etc. leave of their own free will at some point, too.

As usual with The Spun, this is a clickbait headline, with nothing even remotely controversial in the actual piece.

They couldn't even specify what exactly she has done off the court that has been dramatic and horrible enough to be called out and even admitted that, as of this moment, she hasn't gotten into any trouble off the court. The most they could say is that she has a "highly popular Spotify podcast and is very opinionated on a number of topics." :lol2: 🤦‍♂️

You obviously don't have to like Reese - no one does - but don't fall for this stuff, man.
Weighing on court value vs. off-court headaches takes place on every team. I would be reluctant to add a player known for making fake racist accusations of fans.

Keep scrolling - that was my initial take based solely off of a vague Spun piece. All I wanted to know was what the actual issue is. HB's NY Post article got the job done. I get it now.

Reese talks too much at times. IMO, vent about the roster or your individual teammates or whatever in private with relevant parties in the organization if needed. The media and the world don't need to hear all that.

I'm not surprised or even disappointed, really. It's just the right thing to do. I would be much more disappointed to see her try to pull a Hail Mary, rush back too soon, and end up with an even worse injury.

You'll never see this, but Caitlin, rest up, get better, and come back stronger next season. Your fans aren't going anywhere.

The Little Valkyries That Could are the first ever WNBA expansion team to make the playoffs! They clinched it last night with a win against Dallas. I'm so proud of them! ^_^

I was feeling some type of way about Angel Reese after thinking for a little while about those comments about her teammates, so much so that I could have worn my Reese shirt today but passed and put on my Lynx shirt instead. (I got to stan for them and Court for a minute or two with one of my neighbors, which was cool. ^_^)

I had a different post prepared until I saw this clip. No, I don't expect it or Reese herself to ever win anyone on this forum over, and that's perfectly fine with me. We don't have to go back and forth about her. From where I'm sitting, everybody makes mistakes, and I appreciate the fact that she apologized to her teammates. She's a young woman and should take this as a learning experience.

NSFW, mild language

Great players elevate their entire team.

Angel Reese went to a championship caliber team to get a ring in college. And now she’s not on a championship caliber team.

The Fever pounded the Mystics today by 29 points and would have been even more if they hadn't substituted but it was good to see them give the others a chance to show their stuff. Natasha Howard is a good and steady player and maybe doesn't get enough credit for her contributions. She is always there defensively.

Can you imagine what this team would've looked like with a healthy Caitlin Clark?

Sounds like Curt Miller - sorry, an unnamed WNBA executive - would like to get a deal done for Reese, too. :lol2:

...one WNBA executive went so far as to make a strong prediction about Reese's future in Chicago, which was revealed in a September 8 article in the DallasHoopsJournal.

“She needs to get the hell out of there,” the WNBA executive said of Reese. “Chicago is probably the worst-run organization in the league. You’re gonna suspend your best player just because she’s putting pressure on you to get better? That was embarrassing to see.

“I think Chicago will try to trade her this offseason, but if they don’t, she should request a trade," they added.

Given that this article came from a Dallas-based publication, many fans are speculating that the anonymous executive is actually Dallas Wings GM, Curt Miller. But who the executive is doesn't matter as much as their comments about how Chicago will try to trade Reese this offseason.

In all seriousness, it would not surprise me in the slightest if Reese were to leave Chicago, either via a trade or as a free agent when that time comes, and join the long list of good players who have left Chicago over the last several years. As Curt--the unnamed executive alluded to, they're just not a well-run organization at all.

Chicago isn't well run, but they might also be better off without Angel Reese in the long run. She brings drama. She needs all this drama for her brand to stay relevant.

Regardless of what ultimately happens with Reese, Chicago won't be better off IMO until they get some competent leadership. Until then, it's all for naught.

If you aren't familiar, Google the list of all the good players who have walked away from them over the last several years. I really don't like going negative like this, and I'm not saying I would do a better job as their owner or GM, but man, they're just trash as an organization right now. It's why I stopped following that team last season. The powers that be don't know what they're doing.

Angel's definitely trying to get traded to Dallas to play with Paige. Like, that's super obvious.

If I was Chicago, I'd trade her to Connecticut out of spite.

Well, I definitely think Curt Miller's angling to make a deal, LOL. I can't blame the guy if so. Buy low and sell high. :lol2:

Chicago's obviously not gonna act out of spite. If they move Reese, they'll do so in a way that they think will help them. Unfortunately for their fans, the one move that will actually help them over the long run likely won't be made anytime soon. Deck chairs can be rearranged on the Titanic, but the fish rots from the head down.

Whoever does land Angel needs to say basketball comes first.

Angel herself has said her brand and needing to make money comes first. Which would be fine but her brand is drama.

She’s a cancer. Dallas will be fine with it because Paige and Angel fans are the same fanbase at this point.

I’ll add to my last post that Caitlin Clark fans can be brutal too. But Caitlin doesn’t enable that. Angel liked those tweets from her fans trashing Chennedy Carter. She pushed that race hoax at the start of the year super hard too.

If she was condemning this crap or ignoring it, it would be different. But she thrives on drama and being a victim.

I can understand you hating Reese's guts since she's a heel and one of CC's "rivals," even if I obviously don't feel the same way.

The Paige hate makes zero sense to me. I really don't get that one.

I like Paige. Just not her fans, which are ironically Angel'sf ans.
I can understand that.

Even last year when I was resisting The Church, I never had a problem with CC, ever - just with some of her most rabid fans (or, "fans," I guess I should say). Over time, I learned to not hold those people against her. They're not her fault. They're their own people with full, independent control of their own words and actions. She's gone out of her way to distance herself from them.

If I still had the same mentality with CC that you have with Paige, I would never have bought that CC shirt in a million years. I do feel a little weird wearing it sometimes, just because I resisted for so long because of those folks, but I just ignore that feeling when it hits and continue on supporting her in that small way.

My only comments about Paige directly were about how she played when she finally got guarded like Caitlin Clark. She didn't look like Supergirl once that started happening.

It's undeniable there's an agenda being pushed and Paige is being used to push it. When I watched the opposing team (Chicago or Las Vegas, I think, can't remember) leave her wide open and celebrate when she scored, I saw enough to see what's going on.

I'm sick of the Paige/Caitlin comparisons because the only thing you need to do is watch videotape. Paige is going to be the best individual player in history and it won't be close, she'll have the best individual record of all time if her injuries don't end her career before she's 27. But the way Caitlin Clark elevates everyone around her is phenomenal. Sonia Citron does the same thing.

My other commentary was that, if Paige Bueckers is ROTY (she will be), then Kelsey Mitchell should be MVP. Two individual awards ... one goes to the best rookie, the other goes to the best player on the best team instead of the best player, period.

Well, the only "agenda" I care about when I watch and talk about basketball is basketball. I pay no mind to any of the mindless, needlessly divisive chatter existing out there in the ether on social media. It does wonders for my sanity and keeps the sport fun for me to watch and talk about. As always, YMMV.
