The new upcoming NASCAR game is very promising

I am dragging around with buying the Nascar25 game.
I got a good deal with a new PSP console with a UMD (disc drive) but I missed out on buying any actual games that may have been sale at the time.

I will buy soon just waiting to see if they will reduce the $59.99 price before Christmas, or perhaps lower it a few days after the holidays.
Yeah, my Black Friday gaming purchase this year was the wheel and pedals. I didn't bite on any game sales there may have been.

We're so close to Christmas now that if you can wait for NASCAR 25, you might as well just wait and see if it goes on sale. Of course, if you can afford it, the game is well worth the full price IMO.

Okay, I was liking the wheel and pedals at first, but I'm feeling like Greg now. Despite taking the time to try to get my sitting position right, I can't get physically comfortable with them.

They're too much of a workout and almost always leave my right leg hurting afterwards. It would probably be better if I had one of those Playseats or something similar that are more adjustable, but I don't have the budget or space for one of those.

I really tried to make this work, but things didn't quite pan out. Oh well. It is what it is.

The idea of not using a DD wheel and load cell pedals still bothers me, I just want to BS myself into it feeling as real as possibile.

I will start with the controller and stick with it for the indefinite future. But hopefully one day I will work up to a low grade PS5 wheel and pedals.

If I didnt have so many injuries to the upper thorasic and nerve damage to the right shoulder area I would be going for the iracing realism. It would be as a much of a mission to compensate for the unrealized dreams as it would be for any current fun or pleasure (even for something that is still just a sim). If I can
ever get past the physical pain, I will be back to pursuing that option.

But fow it is all a PSP5 and controller fun deal.

I hear that. My previous lack of desire to use a wheel and pedals had been formed from my experience over 15 years ago using a wheel and pedals with my Xbox 360. It had a lap mount for the wheel, and I always found it cumbersome to set up and use. I would get tired of it so quickly and just want to use the controller, so that's what I ended up doing.

With simcade games like NASCAR 25, it really doesn't matter whether you use a controller or a wheel and pedals. Just use whatever you're most comfortable with and enjoy the most. Gaming should be fun, not frustrating, and certainly not painful.

At least I was smart enough to get the cheapest Logitech wheel and pedals set I could get on a really good Black Friday sale, along with a cheap adjustable stand, and didn't spend hundreds more on a fancier setup. I had heard over and over that the G29 was a good way to decide whether you want to do the wheel and pedals thing long-term or not. In that regard, it served its purpose, and I'm glad I tried it.

I don't think I will get to use "Cooter Johnsons Juniors III" as my NASCAR 25 driver name or team name (I think they are limited to 16 characters).
It just has a highly desirable uncouth sleazy greasy hick-a-fied vibe.

Cooter is currently being advised by his legal team, that his existence and the right is essentially being denied. That it is essentially the same as being denied to never ever own a Charter irregardless of performance or merits.

I just started a career on a whim, just to see what it's like. I might have said this before, but the intro with Dale Jr. is excellent.

It's hilarious to see the other drivers whining on social media after the races whenever you look at them funny on the track, like this is F1 and not NASCAR. Get outta here, crybabies. :XXROFL:

The seat/mount makes a HUGE difference. I have a "Playseat Challenge" and it's very comfortable, plus you can fold it up and throw it in a closet or whatever when you aren't using it. I think I got mine for $100 or so on marketplace. A million times better than a generic pedestal stand from my experience.

I'm not a big fan of how stiff the brake pedal is (I have a Logitech setup too) but adjusting the sensitivity in the game works well enough for me. And there's a pretty easy way to remove/modify the spring rubber or stopper or whatever it's called in the pedal if it still bothers you.

Man, thank you for this post. You confirmed what I was thinking. I took another look at those Playseats. I definitely don't have room for one, but looking at them and then seeing how I sit in my car cracked the code. My pedals were sitting way too low.

The pedal portion of my stand is adjustable, so I just raised them to the highest position possible and then put a little box underneath the pedals themselves to raise them up more (and then a heavier box in front of the stand so the pedals don't move forward on me).

I then grabbed a little cushion to put underneath my legs since they're now raised up a bit from the couch. We'll see how this works out long-term, but so far, I'm a lot more comfortable than I was. 👍

In more positive NASCAR 25 news, another update dropped today. Among other things, I can confirm that the AI pit road exit speed has indeed finally been fixed! Looks like my 100 difficulty ARCA championship bid with Lanie Buice is back on! ^_^

After putting just over 100 hours into this game, I'm finally starting to wrap my head around road course racing.

I took the time to learn the two tracks I didn't know, COTA and the Chicago street course. Those are the two toughest tracks in the game for me right now. They're very good teachers of throttle discipline, perhaps too good.

Lime Rock is my probably favorite road course in the game right now - I love racing the Trucks there - but it felt pretty darn good to finally get that Chicago win with Chase Elliott after a solid hour or two of getting sideways and spinning out in practice.

Okay I think I have everything set up and working. Now...what is the best way for an old guy that has never really played video games get started/learn the game?

IMO, just jump in and do some quick races in the different series. Long-term, I would start out with the ARCA cars to learn how the game wants you to drive.

Take some time to dial in whatever settings you want to use. Maybe check out a YouTuber or two and see what settings they use, or just watch a video that explains them all and pick whatever you want. There is no universal right or wrong with those. Just go with whatever you like.

This is your game that you paid good money for, so play it as you choose. Don't be afraid to lower the AI difficulty and use assists, no matter what anyone else says. If you don't want to use them, you certainly don't have to, but you also don't have to dive in without them ASAP. You can always start out with them on and then turn them down or off once you get more comfortable.

With the wheel and pedals specifically, I can't stress this enough - take the time to get your sitting position right. If you feel any discomfort, change something up with your sitting position or stop using the wheel/pedals for the day. Don't try to just push through it. The wheel and pedals can be a workout, but they shouldn't leave you in pain.

Most importantly, have fun! That's the whole point of playing video games. If you're not enjoying it, then it's defeating its purpose.

Since NASCAR 25 came out more than two months ago...given the time you have missed, you have lost money imo

That is true and I should bought the game during a black friday sale.

But at this point I wouldn't get to play much anyway over the next few weeks, even if I had the NASCAR game, based on holiday traveling, etc.

I tried the F1-25 game yesterday for about 30 to 45 minutes, and I probably will not even turn the console back on until the 26th.

I haven't even taken the plastic wrapper off the GT7 game yet. The only exception might be to play a little bit tomorrow, but I doubt it will happen.

We are flying to Cancun on Thursday, so I will be packing tomorrow and consumed with all the honey-do's and related distractions prior to leaving.

The Nascar25 game will still be around after the 26th and at this point I might as well wait for a post Christmas price drop.

NASCAR 25, especially after the few fixes from a recent patch, is well worth the full price IMO, but it's your money, not ours. There's never any harm in taking the patient gamer approach and waiting for a decent sale.

I'm doing the same thing with Ghost of Yotei. Both games came out recently and have been selling well, so it'll likely be a while before any good sales happen. (I don't recall seeing either game go on sale for Black Friday.) Like you with NASCAR 25, I can wait for Yotei. The games aren't going anywhere, and there's plenty of other stuff to play in the meantime.

Enjoy your trip. Stay safe down there.
