This hits hard, as many years ago I was close to the racing community via my press pass and racing coverage I did every year at the Charlotte races. When I left broadcasting I entered into a different career path with a large company, relocated out of state. Eventually my role was National Product Manager, and I helped develop marketing plans for these suppliers. I returned to my NASCAR roots when designing a major customer contest with 3M. The winning customers would all be flown to Charlotte for the October 500 race, have pit tours, and enjoy a large suite. But there was a surprise. Greg Biffle himself came up to the suite on raceday, spoke to everyone about his season, how things looked that day, and answered everyone’s questions. THEN he spent time autographing a special edition 3M car for each and every person there! Our customers were thrilled, had a great time! I was beyond impressed with Greg, who genuinely gave of himself to every individual there.
For as good as he was in those situations, he was much more to the many people he befriended while driving and in “retirement”. Ultimately his heroic actions to save lives and bring aid after Helene demonstrated that love and caring beyond measure.
