Curse of the #22

So got to thinking, maybe the Penske car is cursed??

I Mean, first Kurt Busch gets fired from it for being an a** and having a meltdown. Then AJ Dinger gets busted for illegal substance and now Lagano has had (2) incidents himself already.

Maybe time for Penske to think about a new car!!! :confused:
 
Nope they used to say the same about green cars.
Besides the 22 has had good exposure this year.
Sundays race a classic to be discussed for years and the 22 was a main character.
There is as much evidence to say the un bowtied #11 is cursed. They entered the finale in 1992 and 2010 with the point lead and lost the title both times.

Definitely going down as a top finish in NASCAR history. Joey ran what might have been the best race of his career to date, and with that I see no sign of him slowing down. Maybe we should give it a full season before we talk about curses.. were barely getting started here for all we know that car could go on to win the championship.
 
That car has a good and bad history.

In 1949 the first NASCAR Cup was won under the #22 banner by Red Byron.

In 1964 Fireball Roberts died as a result of wrecking the #22 @ Charlotte.

Kurt probably tied two soup cans to a string of yarn as a child, then cursed out the kid on the other end.
AJ was probably snorting crushed Smarties as early as the fourth grade.
And Joey is probably dating the 100th woman to say "I can't believe I'm dating the biggest ***** in NASCAR."

Maybe time for Penske to think about a new talent scout.

Nope! Wrong! Joey is a champion in the making! The drivers don't like him but that doesn't mean he not doing great so far.. theyre just upset theyre gettin beat by a kid. they know he'll kick all their asses for years to come and are just struggling with trying to get a grip on that. Regardless they are going to have to soon.

You don't think I know that?. Look pal, I can't speak for all teams, but I do know that the 78 has a giant white board in the Denver shop titled: How Are We Going To Beat Champion In The Making Joey Logano. It's at least 10 yards long. Problem is, it's blank. No one's figured it out. It's like that chalk board with the math problem in Good Will Hunting...only we haven't found Will.

So... I'd appreciate you not rubbing it in. You have no idea how demoralizing it is.

I bet Shell/Pennzoil is glad their name is involved in all this. I think some sponsors would be glad if their name was attached to all these fireballs, but not an oil company.

Penske should bring back the #12 in NASCAR. The most memorable Penske Cup car to me, aside from the Blue Deuce.

I don't know.. depends on how they view it really. They could be excited that their driver is making noise, he's fast and he's showing promise. That's a good thing if you ask me. Joey seems to have a big percentage of the general public on his side.

I think you have to go back to the 1979 500 to see 2 guys race that hard.

You might wanna take your own advice above about giving it a year, except, give it a year before you even try to say Joey...ah hell...nevermind. Today isn't the day for round 238. :D

Bobby Allison won his only (winston) cup championship in 1983 driving the Digard #22 with Miller high life as a sponsor.
I dont really believe in luck but there are some improbables, Bobby was 45 the oldest cup champ on record. He lost two highly contested points battles to waltrip in 81-82, Waltrip was in Jr Johnsons # 11, Bobby was driving for Digard then as well in the #88 Gatorade sponsored car.

If one believes in luck the 22 helped Bobby who was a most worthy champion

Next year, the yellow Alliance Truck Parts Ford #12 with driver Sam Hornish.

I may of bought into this if it was Logano instead of Hamlin out for the next 6 races.
 
If you believe in all that mumbo jumbo :)

This is going to be a great year, unless of course if one team "clicks" early on this car that would put a damper on things. I legitimately feel bummed about no race this weekend.

And hats off to Danica, she is bringing these cars home, and with 100's of miles seat time. I am so hoping one day she gets a setup that's 10% over everyone else on a 1.5, so we can see what she does in a lead cluster and making competitive passes.

Ward Burton won both the Daytona 500 and Southern 500 in the #22.

You remind me of my 5 year old self pulling for Jeff Gordon. Except my fanhood never became delusional. I'm sure logano has the whole field shaking in their boots. Please!

Yes, he does remind me of a little kid NASCAR fan. When I was a kid, I liked Dale Earnhardt and my friend liked Mark Martin and we'd get into shouting matches on the school yard about who was better. I think there was a girl who liked Bobby Labonte but we didn't talk about NASCAR with her because NASCAR was icky and girls aren't supposed to like it.

Of course, Jeff Gordon was easily the 'worst' so we would have ganged up on you back in the day. :)
 
The only NASCAR number I ever felt was cursed was #28. Davey Allison had his fatal helicopter crash during his tenure as the driver of the 28, Ernie Irvan almost lost his life in a practice crash at Michigan while piloting the 28, and Kenny Irwin, who once drove the 28 car, lost his life in a practice crash at New Hampshire.

I'm actually very happy there weren't racing forums in the early to mid 90's... I would definitely have a leg to stand on though!

As far as cursed numbers.. 28 has definitely been a curse.

Cursed or not, that was one bitchin' paint scheme.
