Thanks for the TV schedule, I look forward to it every week.

That schedule will now make me look to see if I even get FS2 on Dish. I am not sure if I do. Anyone out there know what channel number that might be?
Nope, I have it on Direct TV though, channel 618. :D

Nice pic of AMS. It's a long time until they get this thing started. Wait, what's that? Grit Chips anyone? At the risk of offending probably most everyone on this board that's tried the damn things, I gotta say, they are one of the most horrible chips that I've ever eaten. I got suckered into buying their product this past spring, in Bristol, when they sponsored the Nationwide race. Two hot babes in spandex crop tops and spandex pants somehow caught my attention @ the Grit Chips display and next thing I knew I was buying chips off of them. You might be a redneck if you like these things! Right Jeff? Anyhow, I did find a good use for them. The winters sometimes get bad here in western PA. I carry the remaining bags in the trunk of my car in case I get stuck in the snow. Smash the bag and throw a little under the drive wheels and it'll get you out of that ditch. Unfortunately, to this day, I still have a fear of spandex though. :(

Never really can comprehend that banking 'till you're there in person

New tire being used at AMS this weekend. We'll probably be hearing a lot more about this into the weekend.

As drivers take to the track for this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races at Atlanta Motor Speedway, they’ll be riding on a newly designed Goodyear Eagle race tire with roots in consumer tire technology.

Goodyear’s new right-side tire for Atlanta marks the by Coupon Companion">introduction of its Multi-Zone Tread Technology, which combines two different rubber compounds in a single tread to face the conditions of one of NASCAR’s most demanding speedways. And while Goodyear often applies what it learns in the high-performance world of NASCAR to the development of consumer tires, this time technology was transferred from the street to the track.

“Atlanta is one of our biggest challenges from a tire perspective,” said Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of worldwide racing. “The abrasive track surface causes extremely high wear, while the length and layout promote very high speeds.”

Interesting tire design. I've often wondered why the didn't use a tough compound surrounding plugs of a softer, grippier compound.

I sure hope all this stays together. Since the softer compound is on the outside edge, I think those HMS cars with their huge camber will suffer quite a bit.

Im looking forward to seeing how these tires react. I don't know much about tire compounds and all that but I do love me some tire wear track racin'.

Looking forward to hearing about it tomorrow. The nationwide race will be a good indication of what to expect in the cup race I'm pretty sure they're both using the same tire.

Notes: Teams in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series will be running the same combination of left- and right-side tires at Atlanta this weekend . . . this is the same left--side tire code (D-4384) that these teams have run the last two seasons at this track . . . this new right-side tire code (D-4602) is making its debut at Atlanta and incorporates Goodyear Racings new zone tread technology . . . the tire combines the compound that has recently been run at Kansas and Michigan on the inside three inches of the tread, with the compound run at Atlanta for the last seasons across the rest of the tread . . . the concept will give teams endurance and heat resistance on the inside third of the tire and traction on the outside two-thirds . . . while Goodyear has used the multi-zone concept on passenger tires before, this is its first application in NASCAR . . . this tire was confirmed at a Goodyear test with 13 drivers at Atlanta on August 6 . . . drivers participating in that test were Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski, Jamie McMurray, Casey Mears, Paul Menard, David Ragan, David Reutimann, Martin Truex Jr. and J.J. Yeley . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run liners in all four tire positions at Atlanta. . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

I'm not so sure they equate. The cup cars are much faster and heavier. I hope it works out, because tire wear (without blowouts) would go a long way to seeing better racing.

I always like when strategy comes into a race. Fuel, tire wear, pit windows etc.. makes for a good finish. Its fun trying to follow all the different strategies.. that's why I try to never miss a lap. I hate coming into a race half way and not knowing what's going on with who.

WTF? So there is no new, grippier compound being used? They simply added 3 inches of HARDER compound to the inside?

Same old hard compound with 3 inches of even harder compound. So much for more wear.

All I ever want to hear out of any CC on the scanner when a car is coming in is "Four Tires and Fuel", In My Opinion that's racing.

Instead, we get "Stay out and save gas". Who cares if the fans are bored? Matt already won 3 races on old tires, so throw away the lug wrenches and lets go coasting!

Gordon has been the hottest Atlanta driver the last two years, he just hasn't sealed the deal in the closing laps.

I am thinking he will be more aggressive this year based on the urgency.

All I ever want to hear out of any CC on the scanner when a car is coming in is "Four Tires and Fuel", In My Opinion that's racing.

or how about "Its a big risk taking two tires here, lets take four." seems taking two tires is no big deal anymore.

Apparently, some drivers are calling this "Franken-tire". lol
Others, like your driver, think that this tire is going to be a good thing.

The tire’s inside shoulder features a firmer compound to help manage wear for enhanced durability. The outside two-thirds of the tread uses a more tractive tread compound to help increase grip for better handling.

Goodyear hopes that this will give teams more choice as far as camber and will be able to balance the difficulty of good traction while limiting excessive wear at a high-speed track such as Atlanta.

“It’s very, very important that that tire succeeds because it is the future of our sport,” Keselowski said.

“It’s the solution for the lack of side-by-side racing that we have in the sense of what Goodyear is able to do.”

Keselowski, the 2012 Sprint Cup champion, was one of 13 drivers to test the tire at Atlanta earlier this month.

“We’re going to find out in a trial by fire at Atlanta how it is going to work,” Keselowski said. “So far the test was good, and that is great.”

Read the rest here.

On Race Hub Booty Barker said that because the harder compound is on the inside that the grip is on the outside and they'll have to run the tire straight/ less camber to get grip on the track. Which will make it interesting for the teams that have hit on something in the tire area. I'm pretty sure they'll have to run different setups to counteract the handling differences from having less camber. Could make for a surprise winner. Or at least a few surprise losers.
