Condolences to you Mike and welcome to the forum . Hope we hear more from you.

Update from a friend of Steve ---- written this past Tuesday

Please continue to pray for my friends, Steve and Karen, and their family. Steve had a very hard time with the chemo, and lost ten pounds in four days, unable to tolerate any nourishment. Prayers were answered and he was able to drink a protein supplement today. Please continue to pray for strength, courage, and peaceful sleep as he forges on in this battle. Thank you all so much!

Thank you for updating us, please keep us informed.

Chemo is horrible. They poison you to the point of death, then bring you back. I watched 3 people go thru it, and the first session was always the toughest until they get the dose right. I hope someone gets him some weed next time. The THC works wonders for the after affects.

I watched my father go through it a few years back and recently a life long friend who lasted 3 months from the date of diagnosis and he wasn't all that old.

Oh man this really sucks. Thoughts and prayers to his family and of course him. Like others have said, I hope he has early stage cancer.

You know what the sad thing is? I betcha he did it for publicity :(

Doubt it.

I'll tell you a story about Carl. A guy from around here his daughter was in a car wreck, and was-is seriously injured. Carl came down to an event around here and Carl didn't know this guy at all or the daughter, but they got to speaking and I guess the guy told Carl what had happened. So come about a week later this guy opens the mail and finds a check for around $10,000 from Carl. Now that's cool.

Thanks for that , Weaver .Why do some folks always want to think the worst about Nascar ?

The story about Carl reminds me of the story of DE and the church parking lot. Some kids were holding a fund-raiser to pave the church parking lot. DE found out about it, and wrote them a check. He told them that if they ever said anything about his check, he'd come back with his 'dozer and rip it out.

Good story about Carl. :)

Living in Mooresville for a couple years, I heard ALOT of stories about DE's generosity. Probably one of the highlights of living there, honestly.

Carl gives away pretty much all of his trophy's either directly to an individual or to the cause of one charity or another for years now. Pretty damn unselfish act if you ask me. He's a decent guy under it all. Most of these guys probably are. Here are a few examples of his generosity.

Edwards gives MIS trophy to wheelchair-bound teen: A wheelchair-bound Michigan teen got a special gift from one of his heroes over the weekend. Pat and Teresa Byrnes took their son Cody to the Michigan International Speedway so he could see his favorite driver, #99-Carl Edwards, race. “Carl happened to be walking by and we gave him a thumbs up and Cody gave him a thumbs up and he saw his flag waiving on the back of Cody’s chair. And so he stopped, turned around and came back and he came over and he signed his wheelchair and he signed his shirt,” said Teresa Byrnes. The Byrnes were already excited that Cody got to meet his hero, but they weren’t prepared for what Carl Edwards told Cody next. “He looked at him and he said, ‘Hey buddy, I’ll tell you, if I win that trophy today, now that’s if I win, I’ll give you that trophy’,” Teresa recalled. The Byrnes say they began to realize Edwards could win the race when he moved from the 27th spot to first place in about 60 laps. Pat Byrnes says that’s the most nervous he’s ever been during a race. Edwards did win that race. Carl Edwards signed the trophy for Cody with the initials NGU, which means never give up. “Cody, everyday he wakes up and sees it. It’s like he’s realizing it’s really his and he’ll get excited and squeal, for someone to work so hard to get that trophy and then to say, ‘Here, you can have it’. That is the kindest gesture anybody has ever done,” said Teresa.(wlbz2.com)(8-26-2008)

Carl Edwards' Nashville guitar raises over $20K for family of Jonathan Bunting
Carl Edwards is known for giving away his trophies from victory lane, but after winning the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Nashville Superspeedway last month he decided to auction off his Sam Bass-painted Gibson guitar trophy.

The funds raised would benefit the family of Roush Fenway Racing employee Jonathan Bunting, who passed away in an automobile accident. When the auction closed late Sunday night, the guitar and one-of-a-kind Sam Bass sketch sold for $20,400.

The winning bid came from Sedalia, Mo., which is located approximately 70 miles from Edwards' hometown of Columbia, Mo.

In addition to the auction proceeds, Roush Fenway employees, drivers and sponsors contributed over $30,000 to the Bunting family.

"Jonathan was a hard working young man with a young family and all of us together are going to use the money we raised to help out his family; that includes his wife and two young children," Edwards said. "Nothing we do can bring back Jonathan, but we want his family to know that we are thinking of them and that we want to help - if even in a small way - during this difficult time."

Edwards gives race trophy to Surprise NASCAR fan
NASCAR fans’ adoration for the sport and their favorite drivers is unmatched.

When fans have the opportunity to be up close and personal with their driver heroes — talking about past races, cherished memories and everyday life — the feeling is that more special.

Ann Kotowicz’s admiration and support of Carl Edwards intensified Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway when No. 99 surprised her in the winner’s circle with his winning trophy and a hammer, both autographed, after finishing first in the Kobalt Tools 500.

The celebration also included photographs and hugs, another opportunity for Kotowicz to further her bond with Edwards.

“He made a great day for a little old lady in a wheelchair,” Kotowicz said. “I was ready to pass out. It was such an amazing thing to do and such a special honor.”

Through the help of a friend, the Surprise resident was lucky enough to sit in the pits for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Kotowicz says she’s friendly with a number of other drivers and, unlike many professional athletes, believes they are good role models.

“No other sport has the devotion from fans like NASCAR,” Kotowicz says.

And..... If you knew the story behind this video it would probably mean a lot more.....

Similar story with DE . Folks who "thought they knew him" because of his on track persona , didn't know him at all. He loved his fellow competitors and was more likely to joke with them than argue with them ,. And he got on well with Nascar , one of his best friends was Mike Helton. I wonder what he would say about the abuse Mike takes on this forum.

Everytime this thread gets bumped I get a little scare of bad news.

Really hoping for him to keep at it and keep strong.
Ole Steve is tough, he has a better shot of beating this because he's a fighter.......The chemo and treatments are the worse parts, when he survives that part, he can coast on to victory.......

Dale would know we all love Mike H. and we're just joking around.
