Daytona Firecracker Cup Series Night Pre-Race thread

Why was video quality from just 20 years ago so poor compared to now?

It would be amazing to see all that old footage, in today’s quality standards. There’s a few camera shots they always used at Daytona, that I’ve been missing for many years now. There use to be a camera on the inside wall after turn 4 and it would catch the field as they started their run down the front of Daytona. It just gave a ‘different’ feel, it was a nice touch in those days.

It’s fun to see some of the differences.

I was at the first night race in 1998. Took my dad.
The hubby and I had gone to Florida in July for the race, when it was postponed because of the fires.
He couldn't get off work in October, and I didn't want to waste the money. LOL

Indianapolis on July 4th weekend isn't a bad tradeoff.

I liked the pit overhead cam CBS used to use.

Drives me nuts how the TVs nowadays are bigger and wider yet the camera zooms in so tight. I'm glad NBC is back because they actually zoom out.

i watch the races on my vr oculus quest, the 20ft screen is so big i cant read the verticle scoring pile-on, on the left, i have to actually turn my head to read it.
the good part is during commercial, the side by side is actually watchable.

The 2008 Coke Zero 400 was the first NASCAR race I ever attended. My dad bought the tickets for me as a birthday gift. Traveling up to Daytona (yes I said UP), his truck spun out in the Florida rain, I believe that was in Martin County, could have been St. Lucie, Brevard, or Indian River. Either way, was a great weekend. Have been wanting to go back to Daytona ever since

Headin to Daytona ( live as of now)

"I hate Plate races..."

vs.

"I hate Tapered Spacer races..." just doesn't seem to roll off the tongue as easy.
That's because your not comparing the complete technologies.

'I hate RESTRICTOR Plate races'
vs.
'I hate Tapered Spacer races'.

That should make it obvious why the tapered spacer is superior. Also, most spell-checkers don't flag 'Tapered' like they do 'Restrictor'.

Busch inna wall, most excellent. Shame others were involved.

I've been stoked for this race for a long time! Been watching old 400's on youtube all week! Hard to believe its been 17 years (half a lifetime) since I was down there for the 2002 Pepsi 400. I'm not a fan of RP races but something about Daytona this time of year is cool as hell.

The fact their moving the date irks me to no end.....

Wish I could watch practice and qualifying. Need a 20/month app here in Canada. Thats on top of the 110 they already get a month. Not going to happen

Nice job Brad! I know he wasn’t happy about last year but that was unnecessary. I remember Brad being down 3 laps and taking out half the field. Payback coming.

Does NASCAR have a Hurricane postponement policy? Because with Daytona's new date, they are going to need one. August-October is peak season... as a Floridian I should know

4th of July is Apple pie, Chevrolet and Daytona. I still can’t believe they are moving it.

Brad just drove through the dude during practice...what a move of intimidation. Sending a message  .

The more people just drive through these blocks the better (even though Brad himself is a blocker extraordinaire).
