I see your point, and Crafton did a good job of taking care of his equipment and bringing home decent finishes. But there’s a difference between having a solid season and hoisting a championship trophy. Crafton had 2 top 5s all season, and only finished ahead of the other championship 4 contenders twice and that’s counting tonight lol. Basically the 5-8th best driver this season won the championship
 
Crafton had 7 top 5s for what it's worth. Not that I'm the biggest fan of the system either, but it ain't as flukey as it's made out to be.
 
Yikes. I was off on that one lol. Could’ve sworn I heard he had 2 top 5s, maybe they meant since June? Idk :p
 
Crafton had enough points built up to make it into the first round even though Thorsport had 3 out of four engines blow up. One was Crafton's. Enfinger, and Sauter were eliminated because of it. He was good enough to stay in the playoffs and make it to the final race.The trucks only have 4 races in their playoffs and Homestead for the final. 30th at Vegas with the engine, 8th at Dega. He finished 23 at Martinsville ahead of Ankrum, Hill and Moffitt who all wrecked out. Finished 6th at Phoenix eliminating Hill and Ankrum and that put him in the final race.

Because the points system is ass my dude.
 
Well, it never quite sinks in until it does. The impact of a series champion who finishes the season winless may meet all the rules but it doesn’t digest well. The easy answer (if NASCAR wants to avoid such ugly examples in the future), is to further increase the points awarded to a race winner where consistency alone won’t likely get you in, or, just transfer only race winners to the playoffs.

I have always said, and will repeat again, that the regular season champion should get an automatic berth in the championship race. Then let only race winners be in the playoffs to get the final three slots. One way the problem is solved. Another way is what a previous poster said, eliminate the chase and raise the points awarded for wins so much that it almost guarantees the points champ is a winner. But, the chase is going nowhere.

Lastly congrats to Ross Chastain for a great season!

It gives them a slight advantage.
