Cup RACE thread --- Gateway 2024

Today shows what is so great about long green runs. I know they are competing on pit road during cautions but long green runs help more to seperate the winners and those who make errors or even just have bad luck.

Blaney used up his gas, Bell needed about 15 or 20 more good laps from his engine. A lot of great and interesting story lines that were natural and unassisted by a caution.

According to him Larson could have gone from 11th to 9th then? Not sure what he means by what Larson was looking for. In order to get to 9th,8th 7th etc one needs to make passes.

The crash was on Larson for sure. But it was for position :idunno:

Busch pinched him pretty tight, shallowed the entry angle, and made it more difficult for both of them. Just one of those instances where both guys are racing really hard…Rowdy himself has gotten loose under a guy who gave him a lot more room with this car before.

I think they said that was the first green flag pit cycle in three years of racing at Gateway. A bit of a lost art, but always great to see it when it happens.
 
I think Busch gets more blame for not giving Larson any room, even making contact with him before turn 1. Larson didn't do anything wrong there.

That was after Larson rubbed him twice. Poked the bear.
 
Lets face it. Those two veterans know every dirty trick in the book. Larson thought he was faster than Busch, Busch didn't think so. Larson roughed him up twice, Busch says oh ok lets play. Busch makes it hard to pass, Larson tries anyway, nobody gives.:idunno:

I have no idea who you are talking about, but if it is Larson, he is the leading car in owner points and that is what he said he gets paid from.
 
Cindric still sucks. A win doesn’t negate how awful he has been since his D500 win.

Good race overall - Loved the different strategies and it seemed like cars could pass pretty well. Always surprised to see a guy like Cindric win but credit to him for driving a good race and having some luck too. That's why I'd rather be lucky than good.

That's hard to say without more info. He may have been told to only do one can and was simply following orders, without access to the back story or additional context we will never know.
He could have actually been the screw up, who knows?
 
I am not the biggest fan of Cindric's abilities etc but I wouldnt discredit the win. He was fast and preperation meets opportunity. It is not that unusual for the fastest car to lose the race

I mean I’ve been wrong many times but I wouldn’t bet the mortgage he’s advancing out. It’s harmless win imo, onto Sonoma

I don't care for a car/driver outside of the top 20 making the playoffs. If you run all the races and that's the best you can do, you will not be much of a playoff contender.

I have never cared much for the playoffs in whatever iteration they are using for the year ( Lawd, I hope Iteration's is the correct term to use for the last sentence and means what I think it meant).

With all that being said Cindric barring some unxpected and unfortunate event will qualify and and it should be respected. He didn't establish the rules and will meet the specified requirements that Nascar requires.

Yeah - I hate win in you're in. Always been a stupid gimmick to attract fans who don't understand that running up front on the regular is far more impressive than a fluke win here and there. Having guys like Suarez and Cindric in there who would be hard pressed just to make it out of the round of 16 is not good for the sport and waters the playoffs down.

I almost wanted to bite on this and say I'd bet my pension he's not going to advance but then again you just never know. A few unlucky DNF's from contenders and/or another run like yesterday for him and he'd be through.

Its not win and you're in. It just gives you a cushion over those who haven't won.
