Bonehead of the Week: New Hampshire

Race Control. While props to NASCAR for getting the race in and not calling it, that’s the only positive that can be said.
 
Race control is the clear winner. Went green 20 minutes too late, then babied the teams like they can’t decide when to put on tires.

The "new" tire was a joke. Hardly any fall off, teams were taking two only and not losing any speed. That's a killer on a one lane track.
 
Really surprised by the negative stuff about NASCAR. They got the race in, and it was a hell of a lot better than a rain shortened event. The mandatory non-completive stops made sense....you cannot have dip****s out there going to slicks early because unlike on a road course, when--not if--one slides into the safer barrier, he will take 5 cars with him. I wish all pit stops were non-competitive. I hate races decided on pit road. This one was won by the best driver in the field on this day. NASCAR got out of the box, and it was interesting and entertaining. We had dirt racing without the dirt, and I am here for it. Way cool.

Yeah I really feel they were in a no win situation here. Say they allow teams to choose, some go to the slicks, and cause a big wreck because the track wasn’t dry enough? Then we would be hearing about that also. I give them credit for trying at least. Hopefully they can figure out something that works better for the future, as it wasn’t perfect by any means, but I definitely feel alot of people are overreacting to this.
 
I’ve got to go with Bubba and his temper. If he wants to get mad at someone it should be himself for not performing to par in good equipment.

Elliott and Larson were practically begging for slicks with about 40ish to go, and I'm sure they weren't the only two. I'm fairly certain they knew they could get around there just fine on them.

So damn stupid. Nascar took all of the strategy out of the race with the one size fits all B.S.

You would be better off watching ARCA. You have completely missed what makes Nascar unique.

Mistakes are mistakes no matter where in the field it happens playboy. If McDowell is a bonehead, Noah is also. Neither did what they did on purpose. Now if Ryan was upset about it, he has 100% every single right to be. Just like Bubba had every single right to be. But neither McDowell or Noah are bobeheads. Just made a simple mistake any and every driver makes. People just pick and choose who they call out because fans are hypocrites. Now I’ll be told that it’s fine to be one, because reasons. But it’s just ridiculous. Mistakes happen. Drivers can be upset at said mistakes. Simple as that.

I bet if your little watermelon farmer made the same mistake McDowell made, you would not care, and would defend it somehow. I’m simply calling out the people here who are blinded by their hatred of drivers, and micromanage every single thing that driver does.

My only complaint about NASCAR was them trying to micromanage the situation. Let the teams do whatever they want as far as tires, just like in many other series. I think the non-competitive pit stop thing could be dealt with by mandating a slower pit road speed under "wet" conditions. The concept of non-competitive pit stops outside of legitimate safety concerns offends the hell out of me, and I don't waste my time following series that use it, and that includes the current incarnation of ARCA. As a crewmember, the only thing that made a lot of what we had to worthwhile was getting to "compete" by doing pit stops. No way in hell I'm sweating my butt off working on an ARCA car and not get to do live competitive pit stops. Back to the tires, once again I'll say what most don't want to hear. IF this wet weather racing is what we want to do going forward, then there likely is a real need for an intermediate tire. If the cars have to pit every 10-15 miles for tires, they might as well call the race. NASCAR is trying to do what everybody else does with cars that weigh 1/2-2/3rds as much and have WAY more downforce. I don't think you will EVER find a single rain tire compound for a Cup car that is going to get the desired results.

Noah made a desperate move, very hopeful. I thought McDowell did the same but I didnt see Blaney waiting in the 34 pit potentially melting down. If anything the win and you're in format causes this type of racing and then the resulting consequences.

First time in Xfinity on an oval. What a crock. They raced in a monsoon on the Roval and half of the course was on an oval. And what difference if it is left or right, it is still a curve with cornering forces everywhere else on the course.

Because there will always be some clown who will push the practical limit to the absurd, and those pit crew guys need somebody looking out for them.

Pit road speed is like 40. They have tires better than the normal tires on a passenger car that runs down the highways bumper to bumper in heavy rain going faster than that.
