Enough Is Enough Full Season Championship.

If Reddick winning in the pre-lottery round does it for ya so be it. I don't think the stick and ball playoff system had anything to do with it myself.

I’ll say mission accomplished IF we get 4 wide at the line at Phoenix and a tie.

Those who follow your posts understand that you are laying the foundation for an offseason worth bull**** if Toyota should win this thing. Carry on. I am celebrating.

NASCAR fans are the biggest complainers in sports. I don’t know how the **** to make them happy.
This....now the bitch is that Homestead should be the final. Instead of taking in a great race, we jump to this. Be present, and STFU.

When does this thread morph into the undeserving champion thread? After Phoenix....or after the Championship 4 are in?

For ****’s sake people…

NASCAR hasn’t had a full season championship in 20 years. Stop whining and move on.
I disagree with you both in that I prefer the full season points and still miss it, however the complaint about how THIS track should be the final instead of just enjoying what we saw is kind of gross. I said earlier in the week Homestead should host the championship but that’s where it stayed. My point being is that this fan base could never be happy, im happy with todays race what a fun one.

Same here, absolutely overjoyed with the racing this year. The fake playoff B.S. just gets in the way IMO.

To me it really just seems like this newer generation of stars all around has finally really came into its own in the last year or two, and it has shown with less wrecks, more close finishes etc.

So much is said for parity and how much the older generation showed respect etc. but there are a LOT of younger drivers in the field who just now are really getting settled in with a few (like 3-5 or 6) years of experience etc.

We are now seeing the potential of so many different guys all at once and it is a great show imo.

Yep, a whole bunch of really good racing. I had the gerbils turned off so I didn't have to listen to all of the distracting by guess and by golly filled in by playoff dribble. MRN did a good job of reporting the race without the constant "expert" opinions and wrong calls. I really enjoyed it.

I'm fine with Logano winning the title this year because it would be like every other year he wins the title and isn't remotely the best car on track. That said, I also intentionally don't watch the finale anymore (in large part because of this) and mostly cheer for it because it provides train wreck entertainment to me in the form of message board/social media strife.

Yes, he is.

Excellent article. Reality perfectly described.
Outstanding....Here's the thing.....and I really don't give two ****s if someone wants to shred this.....the Championship Weekend is flat ass incredible. It isn't just the race....it's that the most successful teams in the playoffs are featured. They are housed in one garage.....the Phoenix fan experience is unbelievable....and being able to watch the teams work all weekend is just awesome....the tension is palpable.....the fan feels a part of it because they are.....you feel the build up.....the crews chat with the fans when they get a chance......drivers hang out too.....it's the quintessential NASCAR experience.....and then the race is just awesome. This year will be my third trip to the big race, and I cannot get enough. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. I would go to watch even if MY Toyotas missed out (which has never happened since the system was put in place). I cannot describe the elation when Reddick won yesterday so that I don't have to even worry about that......and with Bell where he is......might be the first time I get two in for me. This is going to be an awesome couple of weeks!

Yep, Reddick goes from upside down to the final 4. Yuk yuk, this win and you are in business is the cats ass. It's the feel good story of the year. On to the lottery 4.

What exactly is it that you want? If you go back to the full season system using the Latford points, Reddick is 2nd in points and very close to the points lead.

There’s a Twitter account that tracks these things.

Don't open the discussion. I rarely do.
Yep it's bogus to think drivers would race the same way they do now. All it takes is look at who are the final 8 in both points systems. I'm pretty fine with awarding stage points. That is good for keeping hard driving rewarded, but the whole win and you are in, cut lines, fudged up points playoff system I can do without.

The Latford system is dead. Bury it.

This is what we have now, like it or not.

Fans wanted a points system that places emphasis on winning and got it.
The irony there is that in 2011 they implemented a flatter, more linear points school which in itself was less rewarding of winning and finishing well up front. That’s now masked to a significant degree by stage points and win-and-in, but the base finishing position points scale is still much worse than Latford.

It's a rags to riches points system. Upside down one week and final four the next --Jack pot--. Made for TV game show, stick and ball, wrestling all rolled into one. It will be grand they say, fans will eat it up. Final 4 bonus round, points racing for the championship.

I wonder if he wins with everything going on, how hard would NASCAR scrutinize his car, or would they still since it’s a championship race.
It would make a hell of a story either way.

Who would decide if a particular win or wins is worthy of advancement?

What criteria would be used to make those decisions?

I understand it is a novel idea to you, but if there wasn't a win and you are in jackpot, there wouldn't be any deciding needed.

No need to snark it.

Take a look at the final 8 contenders. Cup champions and race winners all.

This format encourages good hard racing while capturing and holding the attention of viewers whose understanding of how all this works is less nuanced than yours or mine. Many current observers have never seen any part of a race season that didn’t include a playoff in one form or another.

On a somewhat different note, I’m thinking of changing my username to aunty trust. Whaddya’ think? 🤓

This format encourages swallowing a whole bunch of undeserving win and you are in B.S. in order to make any kind of sense.
Real genuine hard racing occurred with three out of the five close finishes won by drivers who had no business screwing other drivers out of their positions in the standings with the win and you are in nonsense. That in turn reduces other drivers chances of advancing in the points with the points fudging and the "cut off" calamities.

if a person wants to turn their head ignore it and deny that is happening, that is their choice.

Two wins to be in. The remainder of the playoff field selected by a fan vote.
A fan vote? Is this the same fan vote mechanism used for 'Most Favorite Driver'? The same as determines who advances from the All-Star Open to the main event?

I can see the reddit campaign for Lajoie already.

I was thinking you are automatically in with 8 wins, plus 12 top 5s, plus 15 top 10s, plus a 20/20 or 20 top 20s.

With a default of using the actual accumulated points in the rare event of the simplified formula not working.
I think Nsscar fans would organically consensusify and break out into sweet love around the whole idea.

How about we let people do what they want as long as it’s not hurting anyone. If you like the playoffs, cool, us who don’t have as much of a right to say as such as much as we want.

The network and the gerbs had all of their story lines picked out before the flag was dropped.

I would have loved to know just how Ross Chastain ended up in the 30s. It’s not every day that he finishes 33rd on merit. Pretty much the only non-playoff driver who wasn’t in a wreck that got coverage was Bubba Wallace. That was because Wallace drove himself into contention for the lead early on. Once he dropped off, you didn’t hear jack about him.

I get that we’re in the playoffs and they’re important, but that doesn’t change what makes a race. Provide the most inclusive broadcast possible while covering your precious storylines. If you can do that, you’ll have a great broadcast and the viewers will be overjoyed. As it stands, we got an excellent finish and what looked like an OK amount of racing for position, when in reality the race was much better than what we were shown.
