It's pretty wild how this regularly works it's way out to happening most of the time despite being a comically flawed system, sure makes things exciting coming down the stretch that's for sure. Added level of pressure as well.

This isn't the first time one of these goofy playoffs have resulted in blatant cheating. I don't know what it is going to take before race fans figure out what nonsense this mess is in Nascar and the networks search to create fake drama. At least 5 teams/drivers were involved in this last one. Over the years, Boyer, Harvick, Newman and more have been involved cheating in the many versions of Nascar's playoffs.

Yep. But nothing will change and we will still have people doing BS like this, we’ll talk about it for a week or two, then move on til the next time it happens
 
I think the OEM's are directly or indirectly involved also. Nobody had to tell the Chevys or the Toyotas anything, they were all informed by their teams as to what to do. That makes me sick, everybody heard it who were watching. I don't want to try to explain that mess to anybody.
 
At some point you just gotta revamp the near-linear points scale to more appropriately reward winning and top 5 finishes (it can be done), and tell the field to figure it out from the drop of the rag at Daytona. Can’t bring it at a high level week-in and week-out from Daytona through Phoenix? Tough. The amount of sheer bull**** that transpires across these ten weeks each season has gotten wildly out of control.

Agreed. Full season points championship, every race is a playoff race.
 
enough is enough after tonight, blatant race manipulation and not the first time, if nascar doesn't go to a full season championship format then they're not listening to their fanbase which wouldn't be the first time either.
 
Honestly, I think the only way to get them to listen is if we just don’t watch next season. If enough people just tune out then maybe a change happens.
 
Cheating in NASCAR. Who knew? Once everybody gets done ****ting themselves, they will realize that this all work out as it should have. The 20 **** the bed. The 5 **** the bed. Denny **** the bed. The Chevy bull**** is nothing if Bell does what he should have done. The Bell bull**** is nothing if he does what he should have done. Only four drivers didn't **** the bed, and they will race for a championship. My God, so unfair. See ya in Phoenix. Go Reddick!

Reddick won the Regular Season Points Championship. That was awesome. Looking for the cherry on top. NASCAR has suffered from credibility issues forever. The difference is that now the car is semi-spec so the cheating comes from other places. Honestly, I don't give two ****s about the system. I will watch. If we have a champion in September when the season ends in November, we will have something else to bitch about. It won't stop.

I’m just saying it would feel way more special if we go into the last race where 2, or 3 people or heck maybe 4 or more if the season playa out right had a chance to win, and it just happened naturally. Yeah we have season where a driver would run away with it, that’s fine. Like you, I would still watch for the race no matter if the championship is decided. I was young when the system changed and I truly wish I was my age I am now during the 90s. Sadly I was 1 years old during the championship race in 92, so I didn’t get to enjoy that. I want stuff like that where it just plays out and happens.
 
One thing is for sure.
Good or bad, people are talking about Nascar tonight, more than they have in a LONG time tbh.

Honestly? I love this sport so much that if a full season championship made people happy, I would be good with it. I get the reward for consistency, but I also like how athletes respond at the moment of truth.

See I get that, but you could still have that sometimes during a full season system as well. You have someone go in with a small lead, and the person in second comes up clutch and does what they need to do to overcome the points difference? That would be magical.

The information is available on racing-reference.info … look at the page for the second-last race in a particular year. The pre-race points standings are right there at the bottom for every race.

Max points available to the race winner - 185

It was a rare season that didn’t produce a Champion before the last race went green. That won’t fly with the media giants that provide NASCAR’s primary revenue stream.

I’m fine with it being like that, because to me that makes it more magical than it happening every single year by a system that forces it.
 
Let’s go Tyler Reddick. I hope Hamlin and MJ kick them in the teeth in court. He’s also the only deserving driver in the final 4. Second choice would be Logano. A guy 15th in full season points winning the title would be just awesome, and expose this system yet again.

Losing fans out the door doesn't flow enough cash either, so nascar's got a decision to make to restore legitimacy to their standings or continue to bend the knee to the networks to line their pocket. Right now, people think it's a joke and are peacing out. Whether nascar realizes it or not, they have backed fans into a corner to either watch or not, the current fans that they haven't lost have been forced to find reasons to be to be optimistic about their system and watching their sport otherwise they get labeled a constant complainer eeyore about it, and frankly where's the enjoyment in that?

If nascar is that hard up financially that they have to have playoffs then they're in bigger trouble than I thought. I'm not sure that I believe that they are.
Greed seems to be dictating, and they've shown a propensity that they can change anything they want to at the drop of a hat, when and if they decide to.

Here is my solution for them to restore legitimacy and retain fans, take it or leave it: (if that's not entertaining enough for the networks, than oh well, nascar retains the right to not make themselves look ridiculous so standup for themselves).

Season long points format. (they get to keep their stage breaks)
1 point per position: 40 for 1st, 1 for 40th
25 bonus points for a win.
5 bonus point for most laps led
1 bonus point for a lap led.
Stages: 10 points for 1st, 1 for 10th

The race team with the most points after the final race is your champion.

The problem here is that your central thesis doesn’t hold water. NASCAR’s viewership peaked AFTER the creation of The Chase. There has never been any proof that the Chase/Playoffs has resulted in a decline in viewership. The decline in viewership more closely coincided with the intro of the COT, Jimmie Johnson winning 5 in a row, and the sport’s most popular driver become a midpack driver for 5 years.

If the playoffs didn’t exist, the final 10 races would be on FS2 or ESPN8.
