Enough Is Enough Full Season Championship.

If the playoffs didn’t exist, the final 10 races would be on FS2 or ESPN8.
I kind of find that hard to believe. ESPN had these fall races on Sundays (pre Chase), sometimes as a lead in to their Sunday Night NFL Countdown/Sunday Night Football before NBC took over. NBC also currently needs a lead in to their Football Night In America pre game show/Sunday Night Football which works great with NASCAR honestly. NBC has nothing on Sunday afternoons besides PGA Tour, maybe this will change when the NBA starts up again on NBC but I think its hyperbole to think as it stands now that NBC would shove them on some obscure network once their NFL games start up in August/September.

Agreed.

Bigger picture is I highly doubt a season with playoffs or without playoffs would move the needle much on viewership, thus TV doesn't care other than they'd have to try harder to create content.

additionally I don’t believe that the playoffs are helping nascar to grow the sport if anything it is shrinking it after new fans see thru the farce that is the playoffs or established long time fans reach their breaking point with it, it may be helping nascar to secure a larger contract with nbc if that is what nbc is requesting, but they’re losing growth on the backend overall with fan turnover rate, it is up to nascar to realize that is not to their benefit at this point overall to continue to trot this playoff system out year after year it has run it’s course with many fans and they have a legitimate gripe. (not all and that’s fine, not everyone will agree)

I strongly believe that if nascar did make some major changes of this magnitude not only would it keep their current fans and give them a reason to stop complaining about everything that nascar does, it might even bring back fans that used to watch and no longer do. Next up would be the next gen car, but I’m not going to even venture down that road of different topic, I would take the season long championship points change as a major victory and step in the right direction for all that are involved. If they’re serious about getting people to care about something meaningful then the champion should be decided over the full course of the season, that in itself gives people a reason to watch and tune in to every single race every single week, and hey you just might get a ratings boost at the same time but there’s no doubt that your championship format is now legitimate, and that leads to growth and retention over the long run.

There has been gains in viewership, but they haven't been that large and it would be a good argument between the quality of the racing compared to the playoffs, or the rise in the economy with fans having more money to spend on leisure activities. I'm seeing a growing dissatisfaction with the playoff system on social media after the latest stunts. Bell and Larson have large fan bases, and many fans are waking up to the nonsense after their homies didn't make the lottery round.

Nascar obviously has even more evidence than this with SMT and more then driver chatter. What they do with this mess will be another story.

While I don't believe that they are anywhere close to giving up on the playoffs concept, the fact that they have to sit up there answering challenges to it and doing the Baghdad Bob routine about how everything is great means there is more energy building against it than there has been for a long time. Keep up the pressure and they will respond, even if it's with more tweaks to reward season-long performance and not a full overhaul.

Dillon points out some glaring problems with the system. One was a couple years ago when they told Jones not to pass Hamlin and it wasn't illegal then, but now it is,

Instead of what did we do to Martinsville, it's full speed ahead, we will make sure it happens again because playoffs. We want fluke winners and drivers laying down but it's integrity. It's all the drivers fault, not anything we did. :idunno:

When you consider opinions of so many stakeholders in the industry - drivers, crew members, media, fans - it sure feels like things have reached a tipping point with the playoffs this year. I’m not expecting anything imminent, but it’s hard to imagine NASCAR will be winning anyone over again soon with regard to competitive integrity unless something does change. The Two Steves’ stubbornness in the face of criticism does nothing to help.

Nascar blames everybody than themselves. They had a talk with the drivers and the OEM's/teams. Of course Nascar laid everything on their shoulders.
Wallace talks about the case

Statistically, 2 of your 3 top performing drivers this season are NOT racing for this season’s championship tomorrow. Game 7 moments

"The fact that we had 3 bottom tiered winners in the Round of 8 that led to the Championship 4 that we have today [...] I don't know what the answer is."
Seriously? Ditch 'win and you're in' and return to a minimum points standing. No bottom feeders will be in the first round, much less the third.
