Cup Championship thread --- Phoenix

Okay, that's not really my issue even though I get it. I just answered your question and explained that this is about what happened last week. I get where you're coming from but don't come at me like that man lol, I don't do you like that.
Look I’m just a little pissy because both my college and pro football teams loss this weekend 😂 I still like you.

I wonder if Larson would’ve been 130 behind if he didn’t skip out on the 600. As he would’ve definitely went back if it was that format.

It's tough to know, I'd say to just calculate the points per race under the Winston format.

I know that he wins it all this year with today's points system without the playoffs, and that's without the 600.

The irony is that Larson had a checkers or wreckers season and still scored the most points AND didn't benefit from the system that best suits checkers or wreckers lol

farewell to everything we lost this weekend:

- Bobby Allison (RIP 🙏)
- Martin Truex Jr as a full time driver
- Stewart Haas Racing
- FedEx
- Geico
- Any bit of legitimacy this sport has had to offer

Did I miss something? Didn't know FedEx and GEICO were evacuating to the life boats.

Some things are better 20 years ago than they are now. This being one of them.
Agreed but nobody's getting a check, trophy, or title that way 20 years later. Today's drivers would have used different strategies under that system, the race results would have been different, and so would the points totals. Nothing anyone posts here will change that.

20 years ago called, they said $hit changes.

20 years ago was the chase.

**** does change, but this format isn't it.

I love having a playoff format in NASCAR, but I don't like this format either.

I personally would like a modernized version of the chase for the cup.

Top 10 drivers in points make it. Period. With 2 wild cards - win and your in if you win from outside the top 10, but are in the top 25

Keep everything as is. Stage points, playoff points, regular season champ etc. except playoff points become seeding points - like with this format, they give us a seeding to start the playoffs.. then, run a 10 race season. The additional playoff points are simply bonus points.

Also, add a playoff point/seeding point for leading the most laps..

I think this is the best format there possibly could be

And I somehow doubt that the 12/22 would "struggle" throughout the year like they do now. But we can't know.

Reddick and that 45 team are nowhere close to being championship ready.

May have been the worst championship four performance on pure speed I have ever seen.

Joey 🪳does it again!

Why 🪳? Because he’s not so popular, but dammit he’s resilient. Drives for a top tier team and delivers when it matters the most. Had the help of some luck for sure, but he also put himself in the position to be able to move ahead. He’s now a 3 time champion and a lock for the HOF.

He got in on sheer luck ( the 48 penalty) and a fuel mileage deal after Bell was dominating, then made the most of this ridiculous format, no doubt.

I have always liked him and thought he was a great driver so good for him and his team. It's this format I flat despise.

Joey was a lock for the HOF when he won his first title. With his 3rd title, he's entering top 15 all-time great status.

It's not luck to be the next legal car in points after the 48 had a last place finish.

I like the whole "gotta lose one to win one" thing. I like Reddick but I didn't expect him to get this one.

Gotta compete for one to lose one. He was slow all playoffs and was slow today. This isn't losing one, he wasn't even close

With his 3rd he's entering top 10 all time. He was already top 15-20

You have to admit that there is surely some mutual respect among the owners, especially those two. I wouldn't be surprised if they spend time together away from the media, out golfing or on a boat or something.
Rick and Roger are very close friends. I just want to once again thank the 48 team from the bottom of my heart for allowing Joey Logano to continue in the playoffs. Now I'm gonna go throw up.

I agree. Give Ford credit though and give Logano even more, I cannot believe he held off Blaney

Everyone is so mad because their favorite driver blew the advantage they had over Joey coming into these playoffs and I'm over here like
:partytime :partytime:partytime
"Don't hate the player, hate the game."

That's the mantra I'm going with. Joey and Co. delivered when it mattered. No slight towards them. He's a good enough driver with a good enough team behind him that I think they'd adjust accordingly if The Chase came back or if we actually got full season points again.

My thing is either one of those would be a bit more satisfying as opposed to seeing a team be behind the eight ball for two-thirds of the season, then effectively win a championship off of two or three good races. Like I said, not a slight towards Joey, because it's happened before. 2015, 2016, 2020, 2023. 2015 or 2020 have got to be the most egregious examples. I was never a Happy Harvick guy, but holy wow he got hosed more than once with this format.

If Nascar at the very least would get rid of the win and you are in/advance part, they would at least get 16 genuine drivers to start with before they do their fudged up points thing.

I don't agree at all. He was crap on Friday. Qualified top 10 on Saturday. Finished 6th on Sunday. No question the fourth of four, but he didn't **** himself, and finish 25th or something. He stayed calm, and Billy and the boys went to work. Now how much of that is pure 23XI or 23XI with all of the help, who knows? Reddick is still a step away, but "nowhere near" is not accurate IMO.

He had to have a perfect weekend to have a shot....he was fast in the spring.....they unloaded like crap, and that was it. Salvaged a 6th place, and the car constantly got better, but too little too late.

I don't see drivers having to change their individual styles much =IF= total points came back. The change would be in how crew chiefs call race strategy. Top fives and top tens would regain importance.

I was already to disagree but I checked. In the playoffs he had six finishes of 20th or worse, two of them DNFs.

I wouldn't say he was slow yesterday; he finished ahead of 32 other cars.

Anyone else realize the car the took 3 tries to make it through tech wins? I don't think that's a coincidence

Why would that make a difference if it passed inspection before and after the race?

It wasn't like the illegality uncovered during post-race inspection of Bowman's #48.

To me it's a red flag that a team like Penske has cheated up the car and is trying to get the cheats thru inspection. It being the last race and all, the penalties for what they were doing aren't going to hurt their next race AND they might slip some of them by.
After all, teams use umbrellas to shade the car when they go thru inspection. Any little aero tweak that makes it thru is an advantage.
The 22 car has an average finish of 17th on the year and it became the fastest championship car. I say good job, whatever they did made a difference.

Now a lower level team failing three times is another story. It usually is lack of preparedness,

The old saying still rings true. If you ain't cheating, you ain't winning.
