The Announcers Thread

Is Letarte out at NBC?

These shows are all being produced by NASCAR so I wouldn't read too much into that. But a rumor I've heard is that he's gonna follow Dale Jr to TNT and Prime.

I wouldn't be surprised if the NBC booth was completely different next year.

Hès absolutely going to follow Dale IMO. Heck, it was basically in Dales contract that Letarte had to be a part of the NBC broadcast team.

Latarte is a wealth of information. I could listen to him talk NASCAR all day.

I could see TNT or Prime being Rick Allen, Dale Jr and Steve Letarte. Or Adam Alexander in place of Rick Allen.

NBC has the right guy for PxP. How the rest of this shakes out, nobody knows yet.

Jamie McMurray deserves a booth job. So does Kurt Busch. And who knows, maybe that's the direction MTJ goes.

I wouldnt be surprised if Amazon/TNT got the band back together amongst Rick Allen, Dale Jr and Stevie. Burton sits out that dance as hes at NBC hopefully in a cushy studio job next year. Very intriguing to see how NBC molds the booth next year around Diffey, hes been such a breath of fresh air and really really amazing the last few weeks. Rumor is Fox is looking to sign Bestwick for Indy Car which would be pretty damn cool.

Dale himself talked about how part of his contract was that Steve had to remain part of the team

Is Diffey starting to wear anyone else down? I liked his approach at first, but yesterday during the Atlanta race he seemed to be really over the top. Perhaps in all honesty he was really amazed at the racing and the performance of the drivers, but he was getting away from announcing the race with his "jaw dropping" moments all day.

What I dreaded is coming true. Diffey has been gerbilized. He's shouting like Rick.

He's doing what I said he was going to do.

Jesus Christ.

NASCAR really does have the worst television package in all of major American sports. The sheer volume of races that you need cable TV to watch is going to cause a major contraction in viewership.

So ba
The rest of this season's races on CW are NBC Sports broadcasts, top to bottom.

Which is the reason they won't be on the CW app. But will be next year.
So basically they're moving the only race broadcast itself? That's a pretty big step back in order to eventually take two forward in the spring.

I've never tuned in to CW before tonight. Local ads are broadcast at a much louder volume than network ones. Hopefully they'll get that straightened out in a week or two.

Can we just LOL / SMH at the call today during the closing laps? They seemed to completely miss that the Chevys were running a block. Leigh was even saying things like "the 3 and the 1 are right there, can Byron hold them off"? I was just laughing, like how can you not see what's happening here?

There was a line of cars a mile long behind the 24 lol. I listened to MRN instead of the gerbils, but they were all in also. It's ridiculous to see wide scale cheating and a system that Nascar and the network tries to cover up for.

And NBC announced they’re still going USA only.
I'm not sure what you mean. The article you linked shows four races will be on NBC, and those four will also be on Peacock.

Frankly, I wish they would go to USA across the board. Then I'd know where to find the race every week without having to check. I don't get why they don't stream everything on Peacock. But then I don't get why NBC has a separate sports stream, other than money, of course.

Nascar came out with a very in depth fan survey about the two networks Fox and NBC. I think they asked two or three questions about Fox and the rest of the ten minutes it was about NBC.
The Peacock questions, there were only 5 or so, seemed to be about why aren't you watching. They didn't ask one question about their glitchy sports app or USA. Plenty about the booth Gerbils and the whole individual supporting crew.
Camera angles, graphics, the on screen ticker, in car cams, how much attention on the leaders and should the whole field be covered more or less.

One question specifically was about finding the race time, the ease or hardness, was the advertising information about the race enough. Nothing about all of the flip flopping of the networks lol.

The races on USA will not be on peacock.

Disservice to fans and NASCAR is the only sports property NBC does this with.

NBC’s graphics are a great example of not fixing something if it isn’t broke.

Aside from going from a ticker to a pylon, they really kept things the same for 10 years.

Personally, I liked the 2018-2021 Fox graphics the best. Simple. Clean. Easy to see. Looked good on any device.

Maybe I am wrong, but wasn't there a comparable survey by NASCAR regarding Fox, after their last race this season? As much as I enjoy and watch NASCAR, I feel a bit ashamed when they ask about specific on air personalities that I don't know.

I didn't know one of the NBC, I just graded him in the middle. They even asked about Kim Coon I think that is her name. :idunno:

No need for a ticker or pylon, Put all stats in the cc window.
the put all the gerbils on the center channel of the 5.1 sound and none on the side speakers, then we can silence those loudy mouth schnooks.

Fox and NBC are both using this to keep their cable channels going. Fox, I get. They’ve bet the farm on linear TV and the only way they can get other sports properties is to load them up on Big Fox since nobody but NASCAR believes in linear cable TV.

NBC is so invested in Peacock though. They shut NBCSN, which was even more successful than FS1 and CBS Sports Network, down to move sports programming to Peacock.

But NASCAR is on USA.

I just hope next time contracts are up, NASCAR takes a look at CW and ION.

My biggest annoyance with streaming is that it runs almost 30 seconds behind OTA or cable. I see race comments posted here well before I see the action on my set. I notice this with both my local provider's app and with Peacock. I don't know if it's my connection speed or if that's the way all streaming services behave. I'm sure it's no problem with scripted programs but with live sports in this era of social media conversations, it's most annoying.

It depends on several things. Service, internet, device.
