WNBA

Unrivaled tips off tonight on TNT Sports and B/R Sports on Max.

Our girl isn't participating in Unrivaled, but our other girl Lexie🔥 will be in action tonight, as will Aayliah Boston.

It’s not a full court.

I’m watching ASA racing.
Sorry, I didn't mean "a full court" as in a WNBA-sized court. I meant simply "full court," meaning each team scores at a different end of the court, on different baskets, rather than half court, where both teams use the same basket, like in Olympic 3x3.

I Googled it again to confirm, and yes, Unrivaled plays full court, not half court.

Maybe you watched the wrong game, @HoneyBadger. This one looks like it was pretty good!

This is exactly what I was hoping Unrivaled would be - essentially, full court pickup basketball. With only three players on the floor for each team, it opens things up a lot more.

Though I may not be watching it, I'm glad this league exists. ^_^

Not my cup of tea. Besides I was only gonna watch 10 minutes before turning the ASA race on anyway.

If Caitlin was out there, my interest probably would have been quadrupled.

Okay, I actually take my wrong game comment back. The game you peeked in on for 10 minutes or less looks like it was good, too. Lexie's team was down big at one point but almost came back. I could watch Kah Copper work all day. 💪

To each their own, but based on these highlights, Unrivaled definitely isn't like 3x3. I just cancelled my TV service and refuse to sign back up for it or any other subscription service right now purely on principle, but if I already had said service, I would watch this league for sure. I'll have to keep an eye out for more highlights.

Angel's growth in Unrivaled, combined with the comments about how much she's leaning on her teammates to learn, might be the most damning indictment of the Chicago Sky organization I've seen yet.

Chennedy Carter is out at Chicago.

Make no mistake, Angel Reese IS the Chicago Sky franchise now.
Interesting stuff in there. Chennedy and Spoon were tight, so I'm not surprised that she's leaving now that Spoon is gone.

I started out liking Chicago because of Marina, Angel, and Spoon. Over the course of the season, I got to see what a complete hot mess they are as an organization, and I stopped following them shortly after Marina got traded to Connecticut. They've gotta get it together.

Chennedy Carter is a headcase and a well documented locker room cancer, so they're probably better off long term without her.

I'm not gonna psychoanalyze the young lady or anything, but either way, Chicago has bigger problems than Chennedy Carter or any other individual players. Bringing in that Aces assistant as their head coach was a good move, but the fish rots from the head down.

They've lost so many good players in recent years after winning the championship with Candace Parker in 2021. I'm definitely not saying that I could do a better job running things, but they're just a hot mess as an organization. There's no other way for me to describe them, and there's no easy fix for it. At the very least, they are the textbook definition of a work in progress.

Okay, we have a big three-team trade between the Aces, Sparks, and Storm:

- Aces get Jewell Loyd, #13 2025 WNBA draft pick

- Sparks get Kelsey Plum, #9 2025 WNBA draft pick

- Storm get Li Yueru, #2 2025 WNBA draft pick

The list of teams I'm considering following next season somehow just keeps getting bigger, not smaller. It's ridiculous. Something's obviously gonna have to give.

Still too early to tell how it will ultimately shake out, given that we don't yet know who all the draft picks will be, and how well they will play, but I think this trade was exactly what the doctor ordered for the Sparks after likely just barely missing out on Paige, who would have been a great fit for them. They could be really fun to watch next year with Kelsey there. Let's go! ^_^

The Sparks could be really fun to watch this year, too. Y'all knew what I meant. This next, upcoming season. :dunce:

All right, guys, we got some moves being made. If this is how we're gonna start, I have no idea which teams I'll be following next year other than Indiana. I need to wait for the dust to settle. This is crazy.

Free agent moves (technically unofficial until Feb. 1):

- Britney Griner to Atlanta (from Phoenix)
- Brionna Jones to Atlanta (from Connecticut)
- Natasha Howard to Indiana (from Dallas)
- Courtney Vandersloot to Chicago (from NY)

Connecticut/Phoenix trade:

- Phoenix gets: Alyssa Thomas, Ty Harris
- Connecticut gets: Natasha Cloud, Rebecca Allen, #12 2025 draft pick

Here's an ESPN article about Natasha Howard. There are pieces below it talking about most, if not all of the other moves here.

Lexi and Sophie on the same...team...

Gosh, I was so stunned by this incredible news that I couldn't even spell Lexie's name right. My bad, Lexie. I'm okay, I'm okay. It's just a little warm in here, that's all.

In all seriousness, Indiana's clearly trying to put together a championship contender. It may take a little time for this group to gel with each other and with their new coach, but I'll be rooting for them for sure. With Natasha Howard and Sophie Cunningham on the squad, the Hack-a-Caitlin days may be over.

✅ Re-signed Kelsey
✅ Bolstered guard depth with Cunningham (good since Hull’s role often gets her into foul trouble)
✅ Moved NaLyssa and upgraded at the 4 with Howard

Fever are in business and poised to make a deep playoff run this coming season.

Connecticut has been completely gutted.
I feel bad for Mabrey, although she knew when she forced the move from Chicago that it was going to be a one-time opportunity in Connecticut with how old their roster was. I do hope she ends up on a contender at some point again. Too good and exciting of a player to be wasted on a floundering team.

I was just about to say that I'm curious to see what will happen with Marina and DiJonai when I saw this...we have another trade.

Dallas gets: DiJonai Carrington, #12 2025 draft pick, right to swap 2026 second round draft pick with Connecticut

Connecticut gets: Jacy Sheldon, #8 2025 draft pick

So, yeah, the Sun as we knew them have ceased to exist. As I think I said at some point before the playoffs, it was likely going to be a then or never situation with that group, but I didn't think they'd blow it all up so soon. DeWanna Bonner had previously said that she wasn't ready to retire, so if that hasn't changed, I obviously wouldn't be surprised to see her end up back in Phoenix with A.T.

Poor Marina indeed, LOL. My boo-boo is all alone up there. :( :lol2:
