Katherine Legge attempting Indy 500/Coke 600 double

For me it’s a bit sad to see this. I get that she has this opportunity and would be foolish to pass up probably for financial reasons but I don’t think in the long run this will help her racing career.
It’s entirely possible she could be the first to finish last in both races. 😟

She is 45 years old, there isn't a long run left to her racing career. She should take any opportunity she gets right now.

I'll be honest I'm not a huge fan of this. Just for the fact I dont think she'll be competitive. I'd like her to get some more experience on ovals and be in a better car. What's a good finish for that car? 25?

Sounds like her Indy ride is pretty solid

Not too optimistic about Legge qualifying for Cup. . It looks like she would have to beat Heim and Love and the 66car driver.

Yeah , just finishing every lap would be an amazing
accomplishment for KL. Weather (amongst other things)
is key though.

She won't have the engineering support. The car will be the same as the others
Love to see Penske/HMS/Gibbs/ETC get involved and get her a good car and support. Just slip few guys over to that team. They all have "test teams" that don't exist. How about doing something good for the sport. A top 20 finish would rock the world.

That would be difficult, you aren't going to have Manufactures helping rivals.

She will make the 500, but Im not so sure about the 600. If they have 41 entries and only 40 get to start I doubt very seriously they will give her a provisional

It's a part-time team. No threat to any manufacturers season. I know my comment is unrealistic. I just think one of the big team has a car they could loan them. I mean...she won't win or even finish on the lead lap. Just hate to see her end up only running 100 laps and falling out. But it's racing. It'll work out however it works out.

The thing is even with a good car do you think she's currently capable of running top 20 without circumstances?

I mean you give her the same piece as any TRD driver do you think she'd actually outrun the #35 heads up? Nothing against her, but running a stock car on an oval isn't something she has a lot of experience in yet.

39 entries for the Coca-Cola 600, so Kat is locked in.

Hopefully the weather cooperates and she can make both now.
The weather looks awful for the weekend and beyond for the Charlotte area right now. That being said it also looked bad for Watkins Glen and we all saw what sort of weather they had.

Unfortunately, both attempts were derailed by someone else's mistakes. After the start of the 500 she settled into a position and was running solid, not losing hardly any actual time to the leaders. One would think running out all by yourself behind a former 500 champion you'd be fairly safe, but I guess not. I think with attrition, a top 20 was certainly possible. At Charlotte she was holding her own until the crew forgot to put the right front wheel on tight. Yeah she was gonna finish three or four laps down, but I don't have any doubt she would've been running at the checkers. After she came back on track 12 laps down, she didn't lose another lap all night. The final results don't look for a good, but it certainly wasn't her fault.

Her Indy run was too short to judge. At Charlotte, she was running as well as could be expected in BJ's car. None of the other drivers BJ has used recently would have performed any better.

First woman, oldest person, first non-American to try it.

I expected very little - she was never stellar in the deltawing or IMSA, so I wasn't expecting much out of this effort, never mind the severe underfunding. Simply being running at either one would have been a win, so it sucks that somebody else's mistake took her out of both. But I'd rather what she did to avoid RHR than to become a flying wing over his sidepod.
