NASCAR 2022 - Bold Prediction Thread

I thought my prediction (Kyle Busch doesn't win a race) was over in Las Vegas until the the last caution. I've got a feeling my prediction will be short lived or there will be many more like the finish yesterday.

What do you think of the NextGen Car?

So far it seems the car is an equalizer between the big and small teams (I expect the big teams to get develop gray area advantages). The new car will have issues to overcome. Every new product goes through testing but real world use shows what was missed in testing. The flat tire issue will...

    Cup RACE thread --- Daytona

It is also a radomizer and a bit of an equalizer. Some drivers tend to be able to move to the front on a regular basis. I noticed when Wallace moved down in front of the Penkse boys that he was getting bumped in a manor that upset his car until he moved back to the outside, I wonder if that...

Bonehead of the week: Daytona 500

Kez caused 2 wrecks, the rest were racing incidents due to the nature of super speedway racing.

    Cup RACE thread --- Daytona

It was an exciting finish. I was cheering for all of the drivers who had a chance. It looked like the cars could move through the field and the leader couldn't block the field like the old car. I thought Kez was driving like Stienhouse used to drive.

    Dale jr podcast

It was a good listen. He raced a car on street tires, someone gave him some racing tires and his racing career was started. I remember watching all of the 24 hours of Daytona on Speedvision (before SpeedTV), I stayed up all night (I was young enough to do that). They interviewed Boris in the...

    2022 Daytona 500 pre-race thread

New car = new rules The teams will find every gray area to exploit and help NASCAR write new rules.

    2022 Daytona 500 pre-race thread

It makes sense to preserve the car for the big race, aside from the front row, starting anywhere in the field is not a problem. Only a few cars are racing their way into the 500. Historically, one of the duels is conservative and the other... you know how it goes. Once the drivers start...

I knew the name Red Farmer being part of the Alabama gang but I didn't know anything about him. I didn't know he wasn't from Alabama. I'm always interested in how drivers start their careers, he started racing because he won a race and made $300 which was way more money than he was making...

    Clash RACE thread

I thought the last chance race showed how the "move 'em out of the way" style racing works. I'm not a fan of that style of racing.

    60th Rolex 24 at Daytona

The night racing impressed me. When I first started following the race Daytona wasn't lit and it was too dark to follow the action. The lighting on the cars is cool, it was easy to ID the cars at night. The track lighting helped too.

    60th Rolex 24 at Daytona

The caution rule where cars in class get grouped together keeps more cars in touch with the leader because they don't have to pass other classes after the caution. I was hoping there wouldn't be a late caution. There seem to be a lot of full course cautions.

    60th Rolex 24 at Daytona

I caught an interview with Kyle Petty last night comparing running the race when he ran back in the day to today. He pointed out that drivers only had to show up for practice and the race, today it requires a much bigger time commitment. He had a good perspective and saluted all the drivers...

Kyle Busch won't win a Cup points race this year. I thought I'd brag a bit: Nice pen (making pens is one of my hobbies).
