Yeah and once Bowyer gets with a race team that actually has a clue, he could very well return to Victory lane. He's a quality 2nd tier driver, no question about it.
I'm reading between the lines here...but is it safe to assume that Penske is very interested in the Menards sponsorship but perhaps not Paul Menard as a driver? Or is it a package deal no matter what?
Agree with this analysis.
If Brian Scott was on the Chase bubble, then yeah I could see why parking Tony might have some justification. Not for hard racing with Newman at Richmond.
Disagree...Logano was likely going to win that race and advance in the Chase, huge title implications.
Carl wrecked Brad with no implications on that race or the Chase.
It was a racing deal IMO, and of all the Cup drivers Newman is the guy getting mad about it?? The guy races everybody hard and then gets mad when they return the favour? Taking some low blows towards Tony after the fact wasn't cool either.
I wouldn't categorize this as a "steal" for HMS. He drove for JRM in some late model races before he was driving the KBM truck. It's a natural fit for all parties.
When HMS gets things sorted out, Elliot's going to be winning races...alot of races.
To be fair though... Eliott, Blaney and Jones has been the biggest influx of young talent into the Cup series in a long time. All 3 are for real.
There would be no reason for him to come out and say "we expect he will leave and take his sponsorship with him"... On the other hand if Menards and Penske are having serious discussions, why say what he did?
Is RCR prepared to stay at 3 cars if they lose the Menard's sponsorship? I was under the assumption they were trying to get back up to 4 cars, but that would seem quite difficult in this scenario.
