They'll just lose the lap again when they have to pit, assuming running like bats out of Hell doesn't result in having to pit before any caution.

There's no rule guaranteeing a lap back under yellow.

This is correct. However, during a caution if lead lap cars make pit stops, lap down cars are waved around the pace car and allowed both to get their lap back and then pit on the next lap. When it occurs, it is actually more generous than NASCAR's rule, as there the wavearound cars aren't allowed to pit.

However, you're right that there is no guarantee. If the lead lap cars don't pit, it doesn't happen.

It’s like 30-33 iirc.

I think Rossi stretched it to 36 when he won here. Laps just tick off pretty quickly.
