2012 All-Star Race Announcement @ 2pm

Did you see the race last fall? It was beyond terrible. No one could pass. The only thing that saved the spring race was Jr running up front then out of gas.

I did, I seem to remeber Kahne passing like half the field after he spun.

Aero push and all that crap. The guy up front dirties the air so bad for the guy behind, he has a huge advantage that negates better cars.

Really though, if they're not gonna alternate the race, they should have the race at a track that doesn't have a Sprint Cup race (or in Charlotte's case, TWO Sprint Cup races). Three races at one track is two too many.

The only tracks that should have TWO races are Daytona, Martinsville and Charlotte.

Bristol, Martinsville, Rockingham and Darlington

If the TV ratings are there, it wont matter as much if the stands aren't full.

But the Truck race is on SPEED, so they'll be lucky to get 1.5 million viewers. The only non Sprint Cup broadcast to net more than 2 million viewers was the 2010 Danicatona ARCA 200.

At least they did'nt change the Eligbility for the race, did they? I mean you still had to have Won a race this decade to be eligible right?

For those of you clamouring for a new venue you might want to think back to the only time they tried that, 1986 Winston at Atlanta.
About 15,000 fans in the stands 10 cars in The Winston and maybe a dozen cars in the Open.......yea that was one of those "great races" from back in the day!
The AllStar event Belongs in Charlotte!

Lets get ONE race at Rockingham first. Gotta get the fans to show up. We all know they won't be there for the Truck race after the decade of biotching.
I don't remember anyone complaining about no truck racing @ Rockingham. Way too far of a drive with today's diesel prices for a standalone Truck race. Throw a Cup and Nationwide race in there and I'll meet you at the front gate with an adult beverage in hand.

It's not a standalone race.

I like what I'm hearing about the shorter segments. Hopefully this will give us some closer racing.

I guess the DW hole in turn #1 was just a rumor then? Dang!

537 miles one way pulling my fifth wheel for a Truck race simply isn't going to happen. I hope that enough locals show up to support the track and maybe we can see a Cup race there again some day.

I had every plan of going, still do, but the $400+ I'm about to shell out in the car plus the fact that it'll cost me $150+ in gas alone to make that drive really has me rethinking Rockingham AND Richmond.

Gas prices are up to $4.20/gallon here!

I hear ya. Richmond in a stones throw for you compared to Rockingham though. That , I wouldn't pass on. The fall show anyhow.

A few weeks ago, it costs about $50 to fill my tank. At the current gas prices, it will now cost $75. By the time the Richmond race comes around, it'll cost $100 for a tank of gas.

I can't afford these gas prices anymore.

Only one Talladega?
2 Loudon's is fine with me.

Loudon gets a bad rap but I think the racing there is great. I'd rather see them bulldoze Talladega than take a race from Loudon.

The Modified's put on one whale of a race up here. It's like their Daytona, except when that pesky Ryan Newman shows up....

Because NC didn't have enough races and North Wilkesboro was such a great facility.

I don't care how "nice" the facility is, I care about the racing. South Boston has some of the nicest facilities I've ever seen for a short track, and every race I've ever seen there has been a horrible bore. Old Dominion has the dumpiest facilities I've ever seen and the best race I saw last year took place there.

Big league racing shouldn't be held a venue with no indoor plumbing.

And crappy facilities may be fine for us hardcore race fans, a place where one can take a the family (and the want to come back) is a must. If people show up and leave with splinters in their asses from crappy bleachers, and have to put up with crappy (forgive the pun) restrooms (or outhouses) that family may not be back, no matter how good the racing is

But we're not talking about people leaving tracks with splinters in their ass. We're talking about people who demand the tracks have 150,000 seats that they probably won't fill half of and 100 sky boxes and brobdingnagian sized tracks to equip allthese facilities. This is why the racing in NASCAR generally sucks.

Why the hell do you even watch, Andy? Are you masochistic??

JEEZ! If I hated something as much as you seem to hate NA$$CAR, I sure as hell would look for some other form of entertainment!!

what-ever...

I just found out today that I may have 2 weeks of mandatory training at work beginning on April 16th. If thats the case I won't be going to Richmond. :(

However, I am considering going to the All-Star race. Maybe hit some race shops that Friday and definitely hang out at the track Friday afternoon and evening. Go to the HOF on Saturday afternoon before heading to the track for the Saturday night show.

Do yourself a favor and spend the week in Charlotte. There is way too much to see and do there.

I really wish I could. I just don't think it will be in the budget. But then again, I will have more time to save...

I know how that feels. I was going to go to the Daytona 500 in 2009 and, the day before I was going to leave, my boss reversed her approval of my vacation time. That was the beginning of the end of my time working there.

There's a little track in the Smokey Mountains that looked quite similar before 1992 that's still on the schedule.

You can keep tradition and great racing around if you care to, but unfortunately North Wilkesboro found it's way into the hands of two guys looking to serve their own interests. I can say with confidence that if NWS got half the support Bristol has, there wouldn't be a seat to be had on any given weekend. You don't have to ask most race fans twice whether it deserved to. Instead we get a Charlotte clone, and two dates a year in Loudon.

Ouch. I would have had a hard time dealing with that. Luckily I'd already told kid that there's a chance we may have to pick a different race than Richmond and I told him today that we may be able to go to Charlotte about which he is equally excited.
