2013 Preseason Thunder

The reason they spend a lot of money testing is to learn what not to do and what doesn't work. I think they learned that yesterday.:) I guess it's better to wreck in testing then in the race.

IDK. When there is a race, you get a check with the wreck. All these teams are talking about being way behind because there aren't enough deck lids. It doesn't sound like it will be very hard to bolt them on as they come in.

Not as easy as you'd think. I heard they switched to metric this year and not everyone wasn't prepared.

I understand your view,FB, but they can't accumulate any points after they wreck in a race, and I will bet that if you ask any driver or crew chief, which is more important....a check, or points, I will bet that they will say points.

True. I just wonder how it plays for a team with no chance of making the chase.

I'm sure it's not going to help them any. What really sucks is that the wreck happened so early in the drafting portion of the test session and that it took out so many cars. In a perfect world they would have just spunout and not collected up any other cars and then everyone would have learned something very valuable, and then they could have proceeded on with their testing and learned a lot more valuable information. But we all know that we don't live in a perfect world.;)

It is really quite something how far we have progressed ? or regressed . A few years ago they started showing qualifying and noone thought anyone would bother to watch . Now they are televising testing (preseason at that ).Go figure .Can you imagine a network exec taking that package to a sponsor?

So I've been watching the testing and I gotta say. The smaller, boxier rear end looks weird on the cars. Also one of my friends (who also watches NASCAR) says that Ford will have a slight aero advantage over the other two cars, any truth to this?

Hendrick started that rumor. Roush has his press release ready to go that says the Chevy's have aero advantage.

Let the games begin... ;)

It didn't seem that way during testing. It seems to me Chevy could gain some front downforce due to those mini wings on their hood.

Well, this will be an interesting season then. Boy I'm glad I decided to get cable again. :)

I don't think that it is quite as simple as it was back in the day.As I understand it , the four maufacturers brought in a similar sized car ,then N ascar took all four to a wind tunnel and rated the cars for aero drag . They then messed with the spoilers on each until the drag numbers matched . Basically you now have four different looking cars that are identical in the wind tunnel.

Was looking for some Charlotte testing news before I saw the other one.
Didn't mean to bump this 2013 NASCAR Preseason Thunder thread.

My bad.
