2014 Daytona 500 Pre Race Thread

Kurt I believe is the first provisional champion slot. So unless something crazy happens, he'll get in.

Tony Stewart would get the champion provisional if needed, then Kurt would be next in line. Johnson and Kes are locked in.

Tony. Kurt. Terry Labonte. Bobby Labonte... I may have my Labontes mixed up... but thats the only reason Tony is going to run the duel.. so that if he gets in through that Kurt will have the provisional if he doesn't.

Tony's only buying the Duel because of Kurt? I'm not buying what you're selling.

My memory is certainly not what is used to be but I can't think of a time that a driver sat out of the Duel race because he/she were assured a spot. Anyone? Even with the top5 35 rule the drivers raced.

Well either way... Im just saying what Tony said... and Im not sure he said he would sit it out but was asked why he would race if guaranteed a spot and he said that.. or something like that I don't remember the exact wording.. Bob Dillner was interviewing him.

Why would you race it? If you're already locked in and have to start at the back of the 500 no matter what..........

I can't think of any driver already locked into the 500 sitting out their qualifying race.

Then again, I can't think of a driver that had a compound fracture to his leg 6 months before their qualifying race either.

Considering his injury, I could understand not running the race and not taking a chance on being involve in a potential "big one" if he's locked into the 500. I can also understand running it so the PCP is available for his 41 car.

I think its a mix of these... the fact that he has to start from the rear anyway and is locked in... compared to the fact that his new team has a championship driver and could miss the show otherwise. It's actually pretty convenient that both most recent championship provisional drivers are on the same team.

Man, that sucks. I've always liked Blaney and he's not half bad on the plate tracks. He damn near won Talladega in the 36 car a few years ago.
Yeah, I would have figured one of the other Ford teams could lend them a car.

I guess I could ask the same of any front row starter.
Tony also has to worry about the fact that he is an owner. He wants all his cars in the field. Keep in mind he's been wearing his owners hat for a while now. He's just willing to do what he needs to to ensure all of his cars get into the race. Not like it will matter anyway Kurt will probably race his way in anyway.

Tonight's pit selections.....

Hmmmmm let's see... most lead changes in NASCAR history paired with the closest finish... or a JJ parade around Daytona paired with a 15 car wreck...... sounds to me like exciting to you means a bunch of cars on their roofs...
Again it was a gimmick, not real racing if you like tag team stuff go watch wrestling!

LMAO Well I liked it more... cry about it... like all of NASCAR isn't a gimmick now? It was exciting.. also was the evolution of the car... what they're doing NOW is a gimmick. The only reason the tandem is gone because the fans want it... if that's not a gimmick what is?

Im confused.... why I this so complicated? lol.... and why isn't Dillon getting the first pit stall?

Edit: Okay so I get the confusing part.... half the field... but Austin in stall 3 and not 1 is weird.
Looks like they chose one with an opening leading into his pit. Nobody is in pit stall #4.

Tandem is like watching train racing at your local saturday night track, its fun for a few minutes then the novelty wears off. It was a stupid idea and it wasn't true racing. Also more dangerous in my opinion because they guy in the second car couldn't see.

Really?? You're going to use a train reference to defend last years snooze fest against the tandem? LOL

I thought it was awesome when they let the teams talk to each other during the race.

It's strange how the tandem pretty much ended 'the big ones' at Daytona cup races, but brought about the most dangerous wrecks in the NW series.
