2004 EA Sports 500 finish. Popular win and Elliott Sadler takes flight. Throw in a roof hatch too for good measure.

My dad and I went to that race when I was 14, we left on the last lap because we knew Jr was gonna win.

Best thing about that race was this chick sitting in front of us kept showing off her goodies lol :D

I remember when Matt Kenseth first went to Dega in 1997 and he actually ran two laps after the practice session ended because he was having so much fun. That was when the cars moved around a lot still. Why don't they now? Are the drivers better? Crew chiefs better? It actually seemed like you needed to have skill back then.

I agree you had to have more skill back then, It's mostly because the cars drive hellava lot better nowadays

I gotta say , for me Daytona and Talladega have always been the main attraction that Nascar had . Bigger , faster , longer than any other stock car race in the country . Road courses were the red headed step child of the series . Drivers dreamt of getting to the big time and driving on the big tracks . Road courses ....not so much . I guess the fact that this seems to have turned around (in the mind of the new fans ) is an indication of how out of touch we old fans are . Pity .

Right at that moment Sr. mentioned Senna I realized his greatness. I didn't expect him to say anything, but he did. I miss them both. Racers.

I never knew you were a Senna fan Rev, they broke the mold when they made Dale and Ayrton, there will never be anyone like those two. I miss them also

Yup. The common thread there is passion. I mean holy crap--the way Senna responded to his country and back and forth. Unreal. Same with Sr. My deal with this sport of racing has always been....If you are going to spend 4 hours of your life watching guys go around a track---ALL IN! To me, it is senseless to only kind of care.

I can't think of a better way to describe them.

You know...good post.
The more I think of it, Dale and Aryton were alot alike. Aggressive, fearless. They made watching races worth the time. Love them or hate them, they made their sports. The argument could be made that neither or their sports have been the same since

Any predictions on the number of Nationwide cautions?

@dustinlong

More than 1/4 of field running at Dega for 1st time in Nationwide Series this weekend:

Downforce. Back then the cars were high up off the track so they slid around and shuffled around the grooves and bumps of the track. Now the cars are barely even inches off the track at times so the downforce created sucks them right down to the track and the driver has tons more control

I remember that race like yesterday, two of my least favorite drivers both wreck and Kasey nearly won, or should've won I should say.

I remember JJ was really pissed at Vickers. lol

That's back when JJ was pretty mouthy.

@nascarcasm

The most mind-numbingly dull knockout qualifying session at Talladega is still more exciting than single-car qualifying runs at Talladega.

The ARCA race is at 10 in the morning here, they must be wanting to get all the wrecking done early.
