The stage is set.....3 out of 4 SHR cars have wins and coming off the high drama of Sonoma.......Drama is further enhanced by the 14 pushing the 10 to victory!

Im posting this somewhat tongue-in cheek, but man....would that be super EPIC

Can anyone scale Mt. 24 and steal the pole?! They have won 5 of the last 6 plate polls, the one being last year's Coke Zero in which qualifying was rained out. That's pretty incredible.

I've had this one circled on my calendar for a while now. I'm thinking of throwing a kick-ass party either for this race or Kentucky to get my friends into the sport. Now where can I rent an outdoor projector...

I've got one. Sorry, not for rent. I only mention it because that is how we take in the Memorial Day, 4th of July & Labor Day race weekends. Our normal crowd of race fans numbers about 35 on those weekends. I use the white side of an old RV awning to view the race on. We can all still sit around the campfire, play horseshoes, cornhole or whatever while watching the race. I broadcast the sound over a guitar amp that is more than capable of allowing everyone to hear. At times it looks like a drive-in movie minus the cars. Just lawn chairs all pointed towards the action. Our normal routine is to put $5 in a hat and draw driver numbers. Winner take all. Makes non race fans fans for a day at the very least. Good stuff! Find it. Rent it. Have a great time.

Next to Martinsville, either road course but preferably the Glen, Daytona and Talladega are a couple more of my favorite race weekends. I go into this weekend knowing that coming out of it many will be calling it non racing or for them to level out the track, blah, blah, blah, on and on. I'll sit back and enjoy it. Haters gonna hate.

That is the sh!t right there! Props to you!
I posted some pics of the setup a while back in the race experiences thread but i think the post was a victim of our recent loss of a portion of the board. I'll see if i can dig them up again.

That would be cool. That seriously is what this sport should be about IMO.

Awesome

I'm in Hilton Head until the 4th. I'm really thinking about making the drive down for the race. Only about 250 miles.

I like Danica's chances this weekend but I think I'm going with the 88. He also needs a win even though he is 12th in points.

I was certainly wrong about Sonoma (Picked Kyle Busch) but I wasn't too far off.

I'll say what I say on all plate tracks...LOVE them. To me they embody what racing is....dangerous and FAST. Nothing like a V-8 big block full song. And no one wants to see anyone hurt, but this is racing its dangerous

You do it right, my friend.

Back in the halcyon days of Nascar things like DP does were common place and it was a lot of fun. There were all sorts of parties, taverns had contests and catered to race fans and Nascar created a positive vibe and was an up and coming thing. Fired up fans who loved the series were plentiful as were people festooned with Nascar T-Shirts and ball caps plus tags and decals on their cars and trucks. The brewers really got into it as A-B, Miller and Coors would send pretty girls out to bars and offer you free beer if you gave them the brand you were drinking for the one they were representing. It was chug-a-lug time as we turned in almost empty beer bottles for full ones lol.

For whatever reason those days are gone but it is nice to see people like DP and others do their part and having fun with it.

The interesting thing for me is that while many people claim to dislike plate racing the TV ratings for them are usually decent. As far as I am concerned people like what they like and it is all good in my book. Even though plate racing is my least favorite form of Nascar racing I know I will see some of it and especially the last 20 laps or so as that is when things really get serious.

You are correct sir. Bill Elliott also won the Southern 500 in the 11 Budweiser car later that year. That would be Junior's last win as an owner.

I forgot about Bill winning in the 11 car. Things for small guys like Junior, the Stavola's, Junie Donlavey and the Jackson Brothers really went downhill fast after that time.

Quick straw poll: Of these five, which one do you think we won't be seeing on race night?

#21 - Blaney
#30 - Wise
#35 - Gilliland
#55 - Sorenson
#98 - Whitt

My vote is for Wise, the last plate race proved TMG still doesn't have the bugs worked out of their (infamously slow) plate program.

Favorite race of the year and excited for NBC coverage to start again too.

I had the pleasure of talking for a good 30 min and getting an autograph from Dunlavey at Bristol in 97. He seemed to be blown away that I asked him to sign my Helig-Meyers hat and was interested in talking to him.I also was able to have Dick Trickle sign my hat and flag as well as he was driving for Dunlavey as well. Great friggin memories. Both guys are Legends .

Guys like Junie were the real deal and I am really glad you got to meet and shoot the bull with him.

Anyone else watching NBC/SN throwback night with the 2001 Pepsi 400 ?

I was at both races that year. Still think there was something extremely fishy with that July race but it was a cool moment.

The stands were PACKED! Front and back stretch. Sad.
