did FedEx cancel sponsorship?
Not sure. It could be that FedEx and AAA are simply swapped the spring & fall dates although I don't see a sponsor for the fall race yet.

Update (saw this).....

AAA moves sponsorship to May Dover race: AAA announced it will be the primary sponsor of the "AAA 400 Drive for Autism" at Dover International Speedway on Sunday, May 15. The race is part of a three-year extension with the "Monster Mile," keeping the race in Dover through 2018 when the track will celebrate its 50th anniversary. "NASCAR is an important sport for us in reaching fans and potential consumers," said Berni Koch, CEO for AAA Mid-Atlantic. "We're thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to strengthen our relationship with Dover International Speedway, while bringing much needed awareness to the autism community." AAA and Dover International Speedway jumped at the opportunity to move the AAA entitlement race to the spring to ensure that the tradition of driving awareness to the needs of the entire autism community was maintained for years to come. Dover International Speedway has had races tied to autism awareness for nine years. In addition to the race, AAA will also sponsor the "Drive for Autism" golf tournament on May 12 that raises funds for Autism Delaware. This race continues AAA and Dover International Speedway's partnership in NASCAR. For the past seven years, the AAA 400 took place at the track in the fall. AAA will still have a sponsorship presence for the Oct. 2 race, but will move its race entitlement to the spring. Along with a new name, the race will also have a new logo.
"We've had a special relationship with AAA for many years and we're excited to continue that partnership through 2018," said Dover International Speedway President and CEO Mike Tatoian. "The commitment to quality and the high level of customer service AAA displays on a daily basis are the same goals we strive for with all of our events. With the AAA 400 Drive for Autism on May 15, we'll come together again to support a cause critical to our entire community."

Just in time for the weekend.....

Dover International Speedway has completed two projects that extend SAFER barriers by almost 500 feet along the backstretch and into the entrance of Turn 3 and expand the pit stalls along pit road by 2 feet each. The work comes before the Monster Mile's latest NASCAR tripleheader weekend on May 13-15. New asphalt has also been added along the area behind pit road, from the entrance of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage down to the Start-Finish line. Facts on the recent construction are listed below:
" 479 feet of Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) barriers were added to the one-mile, high-banked, concrete oval.
" Seventy-eight feet of standard SAFER barriers were added to the existing inside backstretch wall and 401 feet of SAFER barriers were included in front of a new, steel post inside wall on a newly placed stretch of concrete in front of the grassy area at the entrance to Turn 3. The Monster Bridge near the Turn 3 entrance sits above the new construction area.
" The SAFER barriers are 40 inches high.
" Along the new stretch of wall, one foam block is placed every 5½ feet within the SAFER barrier to maximize safety from crash impacts.
" 190 cubic yards of concrete, 7-feet wide and 18 inches deep was added to the track.
" Along pit road, three pit stalls were eliminated, leaving space for 40 cars. Each pit stall was increased 2 feet in length, to 34 total feet. All stalls remain 16 feet wide.
" 550 feet of new asphalt was added between the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage entrance and the Start-Finish line

We were long time season ticket holders to this venue so it holds some pretty good memories for us over the years. Started off sitting in the long since being removed wooden bleachers coming off of turn #2 before Dover's expansion project. Went to several 500 mile races at that venue and loved every single minute of it as an attending fan. Year after year we moved are seats around the track until we finally settled for the top row at the end of turn #4 just behind Miles the Monster's statue. A great seat location IMO.

This was also a great location to begin our summer vacation from, up until the time that they decided to move the spring race date. That's when we started second guessing our annual trips to the track. It was proposed as being a one time move of race dates only to become the new norm. They tried moving it back but the damage was done. It hurt the attendance immediately. Less families were making the spring race because it was now being run during the school year. That's why we quit going.

We'll make it back some day for the Chase race, if the track continues to hold onto that date. Good track. Lots to do in the area. Inexpensive camping. Good restaurants. Bristol on steroids. What more could be said?

What the hell are we going to talk about after the race if you post this before? No sense in watching now.
We've always got the decline in television ratings. ;) That seems to be a popular topic. I just hope that it's no longer about lug nuts.

In the absence of suspended crew chief Adam Stevens, Joe Gibbs Racing will use a committee approach for Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Toyota this weekend at Dover International Speedway.

Former Sprint Cup crew chief Todd Berrier, who is JGR’s director of inspections, will call race strategy for Busch during Sunday’s race at Dover.

The team’s engineers will run Busch’s team during practices and qualifying Friday and Saturday.

Furniture Row Racing employed a similar setup for Martin Truex Jr.’s car at Phoenix International Raceway two months ago with Berrier handling race-day strategy in the absence of suspended crew chief Cole Pearn.

Stevens and front tire changer Josh Leslie were suspended for one race Wednesday after a violation of NASCAR’s revised lug nut rule was discovered in postrace inspection of Busch’s winning car from last Saturday at Kansas Speedway.

JGR hasn’t confirmed who will replace Leslie at Dover.
