Race #4 of 10 in the Chase, err Playoffs.

Although I'm not particularly fond of the format used to determine the Cup Championship, I still call it the Chase.

To me, the term "playoffs" connotes a "ball & stick" sport whereas "Chase" brings to mind racing activity.

but that's just me . . . :idunno:

Yeah, I agree..... 'Playoffs' doesn't seem to describe it for me either.

To me, playoffs indicate one-on-one competition. One individual, team, or competitive unit against another one. The loser doesn't play any more that season.

it reminds me of baseball for some reason. Awkward. In the real world the headlines today would be, can Kyle Busch catch Martin Truex to win the Nascar/Monster Cup.

I hope everyone drives their hardest, stays out of others' way, does their best, and are able to stay really good friends.
Me too.

I imagine there's an ice cream parlor near the race track.

Storyline - : With mile-and-a-half tracks making up 31 percent of the overall NASCAR Cup schedule, and a full 50 percent of this year's playoff races, Charlotte Motor Speedway takes on an important role in the development of tires for like tracks. Between Goodyear and NASCAR, there have been four tests held at the Concord, N.C.-based track since the end of the 2014 season. This will also be the ninth NASCAR weekend at the facility in that time, which has been an active period of NASCAR moving toward its current low downforce package. Goodyear has responded by running along with those changes by incrementally increasing grip as needed through its tread compounds. In addition to that, Charlotte really highlights the construction enhancements that Goodyear has rolled into its tire lineup over the past several seasons. From mold shape adjustments to updating critical elements in the tires' construction, this current generation of speedway tire is designed to run cooler. And in the race tire business, heat is the enemy of durability and performance.

"Charlotte has really been a proving ground for our speedway tire development throughout the years, not only because it is in the backyard of most NASCAR teams, but also because this type of track represents a big part of the schedule," said Greg Stucker, Goodyear's director of racing. "It is well known that NASCAR has been moving to a lower downforce setting over the past several years, but what goes along with that is the fact that the teams continue to develop their race packages to gain most, if not all, of that grip back. That means that we have to keep up with the sport and continually test and assess what we see at every race to keep in front of those developments. Based on what we learn working with the teams every weekend at the track, as well as at our tests, we continue to find and develop new compounds and constructions to tune to the desired performance characteristics."

Notes: Teams in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will run the same tire set-up at Charlotte this week . . . this is the same combination of left- and right-side tires that teams in both of these series ran at Charlotte in May . . . while this right-side tire code (D-4732) is unique to Charlotte, teams in these two series also run this left-side code (D-4698) at Kansas . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Charlotte . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

Yeah I was just looking at the weather forecast for Charlotte and
came to right place. I knew you guys would be on it.
Good news is that Talladega is not too far away.
The question I have : Do we think the Charlotte car is the same as the Talladega car?
For the Chase teams especially.

Anyone know how I can get my money back for this race? Bought two veranda level tickets several weeks ago and now it's gonna be rained out all through Wednesday. My flight home leaves Monday noon.

Most sports tickets are non-refundable. Your easiest option is to sell them.

Web site policy says you can't do it here, but send me a private message.

Change it to a Saturday night race like it should be anyway

No way they could do this. People are flying in on Saturday, people like myself. The good news is that Charlotte has lights so we could push the race to later into the night and if not it does look like Monday is an option. Weather shows anywhere from 40-60 percent chance Monday.

I got an email for 2018 Pocono tickets the other day that says they have a weather guarantee where if you can't attend the rescheduled date you're reimbursed at face value. I've noticed some other tracks have started doing the same, or offering ticket insurance.

I'd check with the track.

I got here today and more than likely cannot stay past Sunday so probably out my money as well. It's the complete opposite of last year when I came and the hurricane hit. Had they left it a night race it wouldn't be an issue.

I figured they'd have no problem running the thing Tuesday or Wednesday since it's home for everyone except the 78. But that's truly unfair for out of town folks who bought tickets. At least offer a 50% refund.

When are you flying home though?

If you can't attend due to weather contact the "on site" ticket office in person or by phone. Insist in going up the managerial structure as far as possible and plead your case. You may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. You never know what may be offered, hot passes, free tickets, free upgrades to a club etc at the next SMI race you attend. But rarely nothing at all. Be sure and be cordial about it. It's worth a shot.

Good advice. They don’t want to lose another future customer walking through the gate.

Truex Back at His Bread and Butter
Over the last 2 seasons, there's been 18 races on 1.5-mile tracks. Martin Truex Jr. has won 6 of those, and led nearly twice as many laps at any other driver. This season, he's won 4 of the 7 races on 1.5-mile tracks with a 3.3 average finish (no finish worse than 8th).

As long as it's up top I'm good with it. lol it's essentially a cushion and the cushion always helps racing

I've thought about it, and I don't understand the angst about PJ1/VHT. Do the cool kids really prefer single groove race tracks? Do they also hate progressive banking? Seriously, do the cool kids hate all banking? Even the so-called "flat tracks" like Indy have *some* banking. Can someone explain the opposition to VHT?

Less than 10 minutes into practice and the #88 going to a backup already. Jr. blames getting the right side into the gooey stuff.

"I don't know why they sprayed this stuff for a day race" - Jr., along with other uncomplimentary remarks.

If I had to guess I would say a lot of people see it as just another gimmick and find it bemusing that hairspray has to be applied to a racing surface in an attempt to make the product palatable. It goes back to applying gimmicks and band aids to a gaping wound instead of doing corrective surgery to get things right. This is only a guess on my part and I could very easily be off base.
