2017 Dover - AAA 400 Drive for Autism - Pre Race Thread

I'll be there if the weather doesn't match the current forecast :(

Whelp, I'm guessing this means it finally won't rain at Pocono? The weather is always dicey these next 3.5 months....

I see the day coming when they'll make an announcement only when the tracks AREN'T being treated.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this tactic.

It is just a stop gap until slots can be gooved into the tracks and the cars operated from the spotters perch.

Dover is a great place to watch a race! When the races were 500 miles it was such a grind! These were our seats for 18 years. Pic is from the last time I was there in 2010...

The picture of the crowd is what stands out to me as it is nothing like that now.

that's looks close to were we sit section UU row 24 and 25.

Dover was my first Cup race back in 92. Still have the program, which my 14 yo son loves to dig out and read periodically. I may go in the fall this year. I'm sure it's changed a lot in 25 years! The King was still racing then. Got to see him race, which looking back was a great thing. I recall Harry Gant won, and won a bunch of races that September, maybe three straight? Guys here like Skoal will confirm/deny. It's a haul from the middle of PA but I may do it, I think the bus pulls out at 3AM! Pocono is an easy drive. Dover, not so much.

Weather's weather. I don't think I ever went to a Dover weekend without seeing some sort of downpour. Great thing about that place when they encounter rain is that that track dries fast.
Starting to get excited about the Dover race. I'm feeling a Kyle Busch win but getting prepared for another Jimmie Johnson victory. I'll have fun anyway. Hoping for a close finish and an exciting race.

Look over your shoulder Dover. Mr & Mrs. Johali Gator have arrived.

One of the many super cool things about this board is the great advice and information from the members about any Race or Track. All you have to do is ask and sometimes you don't even have to ask. We're staying at the Delaware State Fairgrounds campground. It's a great and inexpensive campground that's about 30 minutes from the track. I had never heard of it until @dpkimmel2001 told me about it. Thanks bud.

If it weren't for the rain delay I charlotte I wouldn't have got nearly as drunk as I did... wouldn't have met half the people I did either!

Glad you made it. Make sure you take in a horse race or three while you're there and don't spend too much money at the casino.

Storyline - Dover's Difficult Mile a Monstrous Challenge: Dover has long been a track on the NASCAR circuit that presents many challenges for drivers, teams and Goodyear. A lot of what Goodyear builds into its tire set-ups falls into two categories - compounds and constructions. The compounds run this weekend have been developed over many races and many tire tests to lay rubber down on the concrete track surface. At Dover, it's easy to see the impact of this tire set-up as the track starts to turn from white to black as soon as cars hit the track. The construction of the current Goodyear tire combination has continued to evolve to accommodate the lower air pressures teams run as NASCAR moves toward a lower downforce aerodynamic package, while at the same time being able to handle the speeds and loads that Dover's high banks produce.

Notes: Teams in all three NASCAR series in action at Dover this week will run the same right-side tire code, though Cup and Xfinity Series teams will run a different left-side code than those in the Camping World Truck Series . . . this is the same tire set-up that Cup teams ran at Dover in both races last season . . . in the Xfinity Series, teams ran this right-side tire code (D-4696) twice at Dover in 2016 . . . while they ran this left-side tire code (D-4684) at other tracks last season, this is the first time they are running it at Dover . . . compared to what Xfinity teams ran at this track last season, this left-side features a compound change for more grip . . . teams in these two series ran this left-side code at Chicagoland, Homestead and Texas last year, while Cup teams ran this right-side code at Darlington . . . Dover is unique among NASCAR ovals one mile or less in length, in that inner liners are required on all four tire positions . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

I just found out that there's a casino on the fairgrounds property less than 200 yards from our RV. The vault combination just got changed again. :)

That's the one I was referring to. There's also a couple restaurants and a horse track.

Hmmm. OK, that's why all of the horse activity around here. I thought you meant the one at the track. :)

Heck no, you've got your own track right in your backyard.

That's a great place to stay. We will be there ourselves next month. We always make it a point of stopping there for a day or two.

We really like it. We're in the lot next to the main gate by the large bath house. We parked on the asphalt next to the grass. Once again thanks.

Top 10 qualifiers in the trucks. No cuppers at least. Jeff Burton's son starts 10th.

That spin by JJ was awesome! It looked like he spun half way around the track and didn't hit anything.

Don't worry if you aren't watching, it was a replay from long ago. ;)
