I thought qualifying was on Sunday?
It is. They just don't have the schedule complete on jayski yet.

    Sunday, October 29 at 12:05 pm/et, TV-NBCSN

Oh, and I'm not sure that you heard..... It is a 3pm start. Make sure you get in an early nap Sunday. I hear this is kind of late for some.

As opposed to dozen or so other 3:00 / 3:30 starts this season? There must be a whole bunch of people who start drawing Social Security this week. Maybe the real problem is that 3:00 starts conflict with the Early Bird specials at Denny's. :rolleyes:

It is a shame that a guy attending the race is getting ridiculed for being unhappy with a green flag start at Martinsville between 3 and 3:30 because I think he presents some valid points. I have no dog in the fight as I won't be at the race and Nascar could go on for a hundred more years or vaporize today and it would be all the same to me. If I was attending the race I would prefer an earlier start in order to get out earlier in order to get home earlier but I understand there are folks that either like the later start or don't have an opinion one way or the other.

Season's winding down, almost over. I think they have to get the last whines in before closing time.

It could be whinding down with last wines for all I know.......No matter the year Martinsville is always a good vintage.

There were at least seven races this season that started at 3:00 local time, but nobody felt that was enough of an issue to open a thread.

The guy admits he bought his tickets without checking the start time, based on the assumption it was the same as last year. I hate to single someone out as an object lesson, but checking when an event starts is part of buying any tickets - sports, theater, movies, the local charity barbeque, etc. For some events, planning for what you're going to do in the event of inclement weather should also be part of the decision making process. If you know you won't be able to stick around in case of a rain delay, reconsider buying tickets in the first place.

I'd prefer it if every race started at 1:00 Eastern too.

That's why Denny's doesn't bother with WiFi; the customers can't stream content on their Jitterbug phones anyway. :p

Disclaimer: I actually had breakfast at Denny's yesterday morning. That honey jalapeno bacon is the real deal.

Grand Slam was always my favorite. It has been too long since I had breakfast there.

Such a sad day 13 years ago today. It was on a Sunday morning , day of the race. Word got to the track
halfway through the race which Jimmie Johnson went on to win. There were no victory circle
ceremonies as everyone packed and left to go start the grieving process.

I see your points but I saw it as just someone registering dissatisfaction with the starting time and I understood why. Seeing I record the races the starting time doesn't have an impact on me one way or the other and if I still attended races the later afternoon start times would not be a hardship as I am out to pasture and only make appearances to pretend I am needed.......:XXROFL:

We were at the track that day. We had no idea that anything happened until they called off the victory celebration at the start/finish line. The plane crash happened just southwest of where we camp for the Martinsville races. The fog was horrendous that morning for the drive to the race from our location. I don't know anyone could have attempted landing there that day.

TIRE CODES

Tire: Goodyear Eagle Short Track Radials

Set limits:
Cup: 4 sets for practice, 1 set for qualifying/start of race and 8 sets for race;
Truck: 5 sets for the event

Tire Codes: Left-side -- D-4588; Right-side -- D-4722

Tire Circumference: Left-side -- 87.44 in. (2,221 mm); Right-side -- 88.62 in. (2,251 mm)

Minimum Recommended Inflation:
Left Front -- 10 psi; Left Rear -- 10 psi;
Right Front -- 23 psi; Right Rear -- 22 psi

Storyline - Multiple Challenges Packed Into Short Track at Martinsville: The tire set-up at Martinsville Speedway is a prime example of Goodyear's testing program and how the tiremaker keeps up with tracks. Because of the time of year the NASCAR Cup circuit races at Martinsville, cool temperatures usually prevail. With that, and the added challenge of laying rubber down on the smooth, concrete corners of the half-mile oval, Goodyear tested at Martinsville in advance of the 2017 season and brought a new right-side tire to the track for the spring race. The results were spot on as the tire set-up laid down rubber, making for multiple racing grooves and better racing on what was already one of the most exciting tracks on the schedule. In addition to the tread compound being important, the tire construction brought to Martinsville is equally so, handling the harsh demands of acceleration, deceleration and cornering required on the long straightaways and tight, flat turns.
"Goodyear will bring the same tire set-up to Martinsville for the October race that was debuted in the spring," said Greg Stucker, Goodyear's director of racing. "This combination was developed specifically for Martinsville, and its unique, flat, concrete corners. The package features a right side tread compound formulated to lay rubber quickly on this tricky surface, which leads to multiple racing grooves. During the spring race, the tire did exactly that, turning the light-colored concrete corners to black, and opening up the outside groove which made for great side-by-side racing all afternoon."

Notes: Teams in both the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will run the same tire set-up at Martinsville this weekend . . . this is the same tire set-up teams in these two series ran at this track in April . . . this left-side tire code (D-4588) has been run at this track since April 2013, while this right-side tire code (D-4722) debuted this spring . . . this is the only track at which NASCAR teams will run either of these two tire codes . . . as on most NASCAR ovals one mile or less in length, teams will not run inner liners in their tires at Martinsville.

Finally a post of yours I agree on!! I would love to see them race under the lights. So hopefully the rain goes the right way that day and we get one.

I am really looking forward to this race and it will be one of those that I check on to absolutely, positively make sure is recording and also check in on to make sure the race has not been weather delayed. Normally I set the race to record and if for some reason it doesn't, then, oh well but this race is far too exciting to run the risk.

I normally don't watch the last race of the year as means of personal protest against Nascar's lottery champ and goodness knows how many other things. I have decided to finish out the year on a bang and make Martinsville my season finale and I couldn't think of a better track to do it with. Daytona and Atlanta will be here soon enough and in the mean time "Fly Eagles Fly" and "Go Leafs Go."

Just ANOTHER reason why a 3PM start is idiotic. That's wasting 2-3 hours that COULD be used to get the race in without having to call it and bring people back the next day. If NASCAR didn't learn anything from what happened at Indy this year, then there is ZERO hope that they will EVER figure it out.

NASCAR's got a pretty decent track record at getting these things in on their scheduled date. If they don't, things tend to work out the next day. If not, there's always another day after that.

Not all that long ago my wife & I sat out in the parking lot all morning long @ one of the Martinsville fall races watching the rain fall. It was scheduled to rain on and off throughout that entire Sunday. It rained steady right up until about an hour before the scheduled start of the race. The sky cleared and the Air Titan's took to the track getting the race started just about as scheduled.

Weather and weather delays have been a part of this sport for as long as they've been running it. Fans that don't take that into account by scheduling an extra day off as part of a race weekend are only shortchanging themselves. If they don't have those extra days to wrap around those race weekends in case of inclement weather, that's on them and not NASCAR.
