2018 South Point 400 Pre-Race Thread

Absolutely love the look of Bowman’s car. When I was younger and my parents got me into NASCAR, Mark Martin was my favorite driver and always loved the look of the Valvoline cars. Wish that was his primary scheme. First post here, happy to have found a solid NASCAR forum!
Welcome aboard.

Props to FRR and taking a stand on those stupid looking emjoi's

They are stupid looking, but according to the reports, they are part of a research program by the RTA to prove the value of the front fenders for sponsorships... i.e. incremental revenue. The RTA exists to try to improve the team ownership business model, and Furniture Row Racing would seem to know something about how it needs to be improved to stay in business.

So I don't think it's cool to see FRR snub their nose at the RTA initiative. Maybe FRR would prefer that all team owners cut and run if they have a sponsor withdraw...??

FRR isn't part of the RTA.

I know that, but so what? That doesn't mean they need to snub the research initiative on their way out the door.

I'll wager that FRR has been cashing their checks from Nascar that are larger than they used to be because of the RTA.

Has race control decided on numbers of yellows yet and drivers needed to cause them?

Welcome. I've always digged the Valvoliine scheme.

The extra income is going to be spread evenly to all the teams. I hope FRR doesn't think they are getting some.
Are the emojis themselves generating any income, or are they just research tools? As research tools, I'm not sure how they're supposed to work.

Either way, in 10 weeks FRR won't care about a share of RTA money.

Since nascar went to electronic scoring, why not give the teams the whole car and move numbers to just the roof and orient them for the fans in the stands?

I think the spotters use the roof.

:lol2:

Besides, selling the roof and racing convertibles would be dangerous. ;)

There are other series that make it near to impossible to see the numbers on tv or in person. For someone like myself I find it difficult to know the car and driver. Especially on tv when they are showing cars battling for position, I often don't have a clue who it is and what position. At the track I still rely on the numbers for cars/drivers I am not familiar with.

its not about snubbing their nose. They are not apart of the RTA and they figured they had to put something there and they honored MTJ’s wife with an ovarian cancer awareness ribbon. An initiative much larger than NASCAR and RTA revenue.

It’s a brilliant move that brings TV and social media attention to an actual cause that millions can relate to rather than a ****** hashtag.

I think roof numbers re-orientated so fans can read them easier would be good enough for most attendees.

I don't get the sense that there is a widespread problem with teams having potential sponsors that want to pay to be on the car, but there isn't enough room to fit them, or companies balking at placement on one part of the car and desiring another.

Certainly greater / larger visibility increases the value of sponsorship signage. Yet simply giving the teams more space on the car to sell advertising would potentially decrease the perceived value of other spaces currently in use.

I agree that the prominence of numbers is now largely a cosmetic concern, and should be under consideration. However, I'm not aware of evidence that there is any substantial economic benefit from changing the layout.

I wasn't thinking about teams gaining new income. At this point, just keeping current sponsors from leaving the series is a big issue. If, for example, "One Main" was written in larger letters between the wheel wells, I'm sure they would feel they are getting a better value for their money because it would be easier for people to see their brand on TV before and during the race.

between seasons there was talk about moving the side numbers to the rear quarter of the car, same kinda thing, to give more room on the side.

94 degrees at 11:30 a.m. These fans are going to bake today. If this is you, please take breaks in the shade and stay hydrated. Talked to a woman today who said she came close to getting heat stroke yesterday, “but I love NASCAR” so she stayed in the stands.
94 degrees with 13% humidity is nothing. I would have to bring a jacket cause it would fell like fall. Try 94 with 80% humidity now that will make you .
