2019 Martinsville I -- STP 500 -- Pre-Race Thread

Dug these out of the archives!! This was the last "Winston Cup" race I saw live. Things truly have never been the same. Still, can't wait for the weekend!

I was at this race in person, my brother was a fan of Jeff Gordon and taking him to Martinsville on that day was my birthday gift to him. So I'm very happy I was able to take my brother to the race where Jeff won his final race as a full time NASCAR driver. Matt Kenseth taking out Joey Logano was just icing on the cake.

Good to see Matt has no ride.

I wouldn't want a whole season full of them myself, but we are going to get more smaller track racing and more road courses in the future. It will still be screwed up for some no matter what though.:D I'm looking forward to it myself.

I'm fine with most short tracks it's just Martinsville I really don't like, too slow for me. I do enjoy the intermediate tracks the most but I do think they could have some different configurations for them instead of the D oval.

eh they are like just about like anywhere else, they can be a full afternoon of follow the leader, or a wild one can break out. I watch a lot of the lower series short track races but somehow because they aren't the "stars" when they bulldoze somebody out of the way to pass, without the stardom factor it just isn't the same to me. I think it will work for the upper series, but every week it would get tiring. I think the powers that be are well aware of that and won't go bonzo the other way, but more variety will be good.

I've seen "ho-hum" races at M'ville, and I've seen barn-burners. You never know what you're going to get --- but most of the time it's good.
At least in my opinion.
We were unlucky enough to go to one of the lets say less exciting ones a few years ago. We still enjoyed the heck out of ourselves though.

I really wish they would use the 2018 rules for short tracks. Tracks like Martinsville don't need all that downforce.

It took me quite awhile to get into Martinsville, I like hell out of it now.

It's Thursday Night -- and it doesn't matter where they're racing, I start getting excited for the weekend with anticipation as to what I'm going to witness, even with the new "package". Although, I worry about Quals -- hopefully Martinsville won't be disappointing. :)

Be honest, Kenseth was brought in as a Roush tool to get their Cup Driver Stenhouse better machines and probably some advice -- good luck with that (and as a Ford fan I like Stenhouse because he dares to run that Roush crap hard, like a race driver should).

Kenseth lost his mind and dropped a few rungs. He went from a top organization to Roush, and ended up a part-time driver supporting Stenhouse.

Holding Stenhouse's jockstrap last year was karma for Matt --

Kenseth should've never been allowed to race in NASCAR again after his Logano meltdown...
Considering he came out of "retirement" and was level with Stenhouse, your statement is as laughable as they come. Keep it up with the hyperboles.

I'll never like it but I can tolerate it. It does produce some good beat and bang moments but I'm more about speed, hot nasty bad ass speed.

Several years back there was something like 17 cautions in one race, they tore up some stuff :lol2: I can't remember who the guy was but one driver caused about all of them

It will be great this week, impound race. Get your best time and shut it down until the race. :D:D

Kenseth came out of retirement for a while because a check was a check and obviously it worked he gave the car better runs than Bayne did. The 17 is much faster now, and the 6 team is a bit better.

Why not just list Martinsville?

NASCAR media is literally trying to knock Johnson down a peg to raise KB's stock. It's sickening and disrespectful.

Shorter seasons. Shorter weekends. Shorter races. Some fans think less is more. Sometimes less is just less.

In any event, yeah, it makes no sense these cars aren't on this track today.
Exactly and we arent even talking about expense for Hotels if thats an excuse. 98% of these guys live less then 2 hours away so they can drive up and drive back. Ive done it many times.
