2019 Richmond I -- Toyota Owners 400 -- Pre-Race Thread

All this qualifying change does is enhance the appearance of the product for their TV partners. You'll still have guys waiting until 2 mins or less to go, but that looks a lot better to the average viewer than guys sitting around and waiting 10+. Wonder if the time slot will be shortened to 30 mins now.
 
What I thought was about the mad scramble to get the cars cooled down between rounds. It might be strategy to run first in round two and towards the last in round three..BUT you have to make the round 2 in the first place so if you aren't cutting it, you have to run again and that blows that strategy. ;) It has the potential to be hectic. This new bunch running things have plenty of tricks up their sleeves.

NASCAR Rules "package", traction compound, drafting, HP Settings, etc all keeping the Garage guessing with Teams putting their own spin on what to do...

At Bristol they were supposedly waiting for others to go first to put some heat into the traction stripe -- that was after we were told they wanted heat in their tires to get the pressure up, but not too much heat in the engines or maybe tires as well, blah blah blah :rolleyes:

Everything in NASCAR has been jumbled up by the Corporate "Entertainment" mandate and I'm sure Richmond will have a twist as well

but I will keep watching because that's how I roll... :D
 
Qualifying has been a " fast forward " affair for quite some time at my house, I usually watch most of the final segment though. Most of the jabbering and waiting wastes my valuable time.

This is why I was open to the idea of a 30 minute session for 10 lap average, it forces them on track for a length of time, and gives nascar "the show" the tv partner's are wanting to see. Otherwise just go back to single car for hot lapping.

My brother who took me to my first race in 1999 at darlington and watched and attended many races asked me Sunday what was going on. That’s a sign, imo. Back to basics. Fast cars, great drivers equals good show.

Maybe in about another month you'll be able to skip the 'drawing of starting positions' from a helmet segment? :idunno:

They keep changing this procedure enough that I'm still holding out hope that they'll eventually come to the conclusion that single car qualifying against the clock is the way to go. They can save face by promoting it as a new idea, I don't really care. It would just be nice to see it come full circle.

if qualifying is rained out in Cup, owners points would be used to set lineup. Looks like there could be a window for qualifying (and NASCAR only needs five minutes as far as dry track to get in one round).

Run it after the X race. Broadcast it instead of the post race. Heck, if they had to cancel it, there wouldn't have been anything to broadcast anyway.
