Nope, the starting field will be determined the same way it has been determined so far.
They were talking about the 48 needing to be Top 12 in owner points to have a shot at the pole.

Thanks for the reminder. I put them on the list for the grocery run today. Plus a can of meat only chilli for sure, and onion.
