2020 Daytona 500 Pre-Race Thread

No politician ever gave a good command. They all speechify and monologue and campaign, instead of sticking to four simple words. This one will be no different.

"Let remind you folks that these engines were made by our great American workers, who have benefited from four years of my economic policies. So much better than those Chinese engines, believe me."

This isn't going to be my favorite part of the whole race I know that much, just drop the damn flag and let's get the party started. Don't be late for the party.

I always enjoy the perspective of the young talented rookies, like Bell and Custer. These are young drivers who have been elite and championship contenders through out the entire careers as race car drivers. They win races. But the talent gap from Xfinity to cup is SO massive.

Equipment aside.. prior to their Cup rookie seasons, the most talented drivers they have ever raced against consistently are barely good enough to be mid pack drivers in Cup. Not only is almost every competitive full time driver in cup more talented than their best Xfinity competitors, but they are so much more experienced.

These young kids truly can't be prepared. Love what I'm seeing in practice with Busch and Bell right now.

I enjoyed watching Bell beat Guido on a road course last year.

Hasn't stopped plenty of rookies from winning in the past though, including most of the older guys now. It just sorts the wheat from the chafe.

These Fords are serious. A lot of speed in packs and in single car runs. Its insane how strong the Roush-Yates engines are.

White House is planning to have “The Beast” take a lap around the track. That’s pretty cool. If you haven’t looked into what makes that car safe for POTUS to ride in, do yourself a favor.

Totally armored, armor-piercing bullet proof glass, unshreddable tires, hidden weapons, cases of POTUS’s blood type, oxygen tanks, and more.

Very cool to have a sitting president give the command for the race. All the hits the sport has taken in the last few years, it feels mainstream and on center stage today.

Agree with earlier comments about this rookie class being absolutely loaded, I think Christopher Bell is a future star of the sport. I do think the talent gap is a little overstated between Cup and Xfinity though. While cup drivers are better for sure, I think the bigger difference is the physicality that they drive with. That’s the biggest adjustment I believe, these guys at the big level bump and slam the door shut on each other like nowhere else

Start time pushed back to 3:15, despite increasing threat of rain later in the afternoon.

So ****** stupid. Fans have been clamoring to go back to 1PM start times for day races. NASCAR is the only sport where the first event after the offseason is both exciting and frustrating literally every season.

West Coast audience.

Last year by this time, I was in Guam up at like 5 or 6am to watch the race today. If you really want to watch it, you can get up early to do so.:D

Set my alarm, had my coffee ready with some breakfast. It was pretty cool.

West coast audience is up by 10am watching NFL every weekend.

I can deal with a rain delay as long as they show things going on around the pit and other interesting things going on...but I hate when they show a rerun of a previous race. That's when I usually tune out. Even though I'm on the West Coast I still would rather have it start in the morning. This must Dun24 or Bobby Fords fault.:D

4 and a half hour pre race show.
I really enjoy all of the pre race shows. It doesn't matter if I'm on the road or at home on the day of the Indy 500 or the Daytona 500 I always structure my whole day so that I don't have to leave the hotel or my home for the entire day and can dedicate all of my time to those events. I haven't watched any drag racing on tv in a few years but I don't think they have any pre shows.
