I didn't know we were watching a beauty contest, hopefully the tiny tot will race well on the smaller tracks. BTW they are using traction compound this weekend, be sure and get you wa wa's in.

The new rear spoiler should make it interesting at the short tracks. Grip grip, need more rear grip :D

When most fans look at that pic they notice things like the spoilers and the wraps and things about the racecar. But when I look I noticed they have cables attached to the elevator door to keep the crew guys from falling off of the door. I have never seen that on any of the drag racing haulers but it is a damn good idea. Funny car bodies must be a little wider and I'm definitely fatter then those guys because when the car is coming out of the trailer I have to be pretty careful or I could fall off. There are not very many places on a race car that a crew guy can grab on to for a handle.:)

Jeff Gordon is dipping his toe into the bar making business

Gotta get Little Sweet to show up with his big hat and small dancing boots.

There are a lot of things you don't know.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

2,000 pounds of downforce and Gorilla glue.

Quite a combination.

Didn't they just repave this track? Why didn't they do so in a way so that Stik-Um wasn't needed? What's the point of having a flat track if you're going to try to make it race like a banked one?
Green tracks race like crap until they age. Single groove for the most part. This track is the final track this year, so I would think they will take what they learned from this race and apply it to the final race track prep.

I really don't like having a 312-mile finale but that's a rant for the end of the year.

*** SPOILIER ALERT *** Pun intended, we cannot wait until @phoenixraceway and the debut of the low down force package, as you can see above on the left is @jjyeley1 @jacobconstruction mustang from this weekend's race @autoclubspeedway with the 550 package, on the right is the 750 short track package, a total of 5 1/4 inches shorter and 200 #hrsprs means the desert isn't going to be the only thing heating up this weekend!!!

Different sized dirty air generators.

Why do I keep thinking it’s all backwards?

Championship preview? How much or how little to read into Sunday race at Phoenix

Many teams will rely on their 2018 notes because the aerodynamic package is similar.

“It’s similar to 2018 but the [radiator] pan is different, the spoiler is a little bit bigger, the tire is different, the right-side window [is now] in the car, so it’s really not the same,” said Kevin Harvick, who has won nine Cup races at Phoenix. “There is just a lot to learn.”

Harvick teammate Aric Almirola said with the limited wind tunnel time this year – each organization is limited to 150 hours – that a team’s performance Sunday will set the tone for the remaining short tracks.

NASCAR also has a freeze throughout the year on submission of new parts and pieces. Teams previously could submit new parts for approval two or three times during the season. Because teams need to start working on assembling the 2021 NextGen car and financing the transition, NASCAR instituted the freeze.

“We would all like to believe that if you go out and win the Phoenix spring race that you will go out and win the fall race, but a lot of things can change between now and then,” said 2012 champion Brad Keselowski.

I've had my share of walking the edge of the door, not fun.

Final practice is 55 minutes. They had better have the car right because they don't have any time to mess with it.

... as well as @phoenixraceway for donating 800 tickets! That’s 1,100 total military/vets who’ll be enjoying a great race this weekend!
In these days of obviously empty seats, I don't know why tracks don't do more of this. Military, scouts or youth organizations, high school students in automotive or engineering programs. There are plenty that could accept a last-minute seat. The track gets good local publicity, sells some extra hot dogs and hats, and maybe converts a few into ticket buyers down the road.

Oh yeah, after we could get it to roll I was steering the front tire with my hands many times.

I had to deal with two that were not practical to make them roll, and both times it was when we were using a full sized transporter. We had the wrecker push them onto the liftgate and then we dragged them into the trailer with big ratchet straps, about three feet at a time. One of them was at Nashville Superspeedway, in the dark and the car had to go all the way forward because we had to shuttle another car home. Already cold and tired and pissed off that one of our best cars with a brand new super fancy paint job got wiped out, that was a long night. My ride home (450 miles) was in a semi driven by a co-worker of mine that was also a crewman. Just to make the situation that much better, a week later the driver abruptly quit and took what modest funding we had with him. I didn't know it at the time, but that was the beginning of the end for me in racing.

Must have been fun getting that out. Anything wrecked that bad we would just get an open trailer and have a wrecker set it down on it if a rollback wasnt available.

When we load a funny car we have no choice but to use our hands to steer with the front wheels because unless you have really long arms you can't reach the steering wheel through the 6 inch whole in the side windows that is mandatory for the safety safari to stick their fire hose through anyway. Plus the steering wheels are so small with no leverage and it is not good on the heim joints to steer with the steering wheel when the car is not rolling. Another thing we usually do is if we have a major fire or an explosion and blow the carbon fiber body off of the car then we just take the spill plates and all of the hardware like the titanium struts, chutes, cables, roof hatch, windows, firewall and all of the mounting brackets and then just leave the body at the track. It's normally in a zillion pieces anyway so the fans just pick through it and get them some memorabilia.:)

When we got the car back to the shop we would strip it outside and take the motor out and any salvageable parts off then junk it. We would leave hoods, decklids, bent wheels, things of that nature for the fans to take.
