2022 Pennzoil 400 Pre-Race Thread

They just said JGR has ONE backup car, and it’s not intended to race but be a parts donor. Team’s going to have to bust tail to get it ready.

Tried driving the Cup car here today on iRacing and it’s a beast. Snaps around on you out of nowhere in 2 and 4.

No parts shortage though.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand the point in multiple rounds for qualifying? Just do single lap 1-40 or however many cars and call it a day.
It's to create more drama, but I think it helps level the top 10 starting spots as far as track conditions. I'm in favor of it

I will bet you that KDB's crew is probably not very happy. They are in Vegas and probably wanted to get back to the room at a decent time on Sat night so they could paint the town. I have had a few unscheduled late nights at the track in Vegas and it really throws a damper on your night life plans. :)

Question. When a car gets torn up in practice is this an all hands on deck for Gibbs (or whichever team) or is only that car numbers crew allowed to work on it. This picture has what appears to be members of all 3 Gibbs crew members lurking around.

One of the greatest to ever do it.

But this is 2015 JJ. Kyle's best seasons as a cup driver are behind him.

I don't think he has more than 10-13 wins left in him before he retires in about 4 or 5 years.

I get it. Not so sure just yet.

Mreh, Kyle’s got it. We all know Bell and the 20 team will choke
I love a dominant car/team. The chase is awesome. I don't get why some get so pissed about it. What a story if Bell pulls it off? Today could be the day. I just like that the playing field is now level...but hopefully not too level.

Maybe not. But man, is he piling up the miles. And with his son's racing career and inevitable path to cup taking off, I don't think cup racing has his full attention anymore.

Kyle's a good man, and seems to be a great dad. But I still thinks he shocks everyone and steps away sooner than later.

I think he's got 10 more wins, and one more championship left in him - a JJ like 2016 championship where he just gets hot at the right time.

The playoff are eh, to me. But the Chase? 2004-2013? Best format we've ever had, and no one will reasonably convince me that the Old Winston cup format is better at crowning a champion.

Season long performance matters, and a high pressure 10 race points race that builds off the regular season, and rewards consistency, peak execution with minimal room for error in 3 months of racing?

Defines a champion, imo.

Yeah, I don't put much thought into who eventually wins it....we know who is dominant and deserving way before then.

Yeah, in terms of his personal life taking away from racing....Like I have always said, I am not much one for caring about what happens off of the track. Perception isn't always reality. For example, I was pretty shocked that Samantha indicated that they had marital issues resulting from the fertility problems. I didn't need to know that, but who knew? Could be much better than things appear, or much worse. Your position is very reasonable and maybe even likely....but giving up a ride sooner rather than later would seem to be damn near impossible for Kyle.

Question
If jgr only had one back up (the kdb car they pulled out of the hauler for a back up had Hamlins name in it) and say hammy and kdb both wrecked in practice or qualifying. Who gets the back up?

Both. No way they leave somebody on the sidelines. They had a donor there....doesn't mean that they didn't have the means back home to piece one together.

Busch, I would bet on it

Book it...Penzoil 400, to be won by Logano or Blaney with Penzoil sponsorship on their hood.

Toyota is at a bit of an advantage with car numbers, but if something like that occured they can get a car from another team.
