This article about the first Indy 500 in 1911, from the Chicago Tribune, mentions a riding "mechanician" that was killed and another that bailed out during the race.

I'm a lot more interested in the new Stang in GT3 myself. It is going to kick ass.
Kicking ass is not allowed in IMSA. If you show even the slightest hint of having an advantage, they will BoP your ass back to the stone age, and it will take half a season to even catch back up.
