2025 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500

Woke up to see Armstrong wrecked his car this morning and had to take an ambulance ride. That's too bad for him but hey, that's the speedway for you.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t medically cleared to qualify this weekend.

I wonder if Linus Lundqvist is hanging around the paddock.

Incredibly consistent run from Pato. Seems like the ‘meta’ might be to deploy all the energy from exit of turn 3, lap 3 all the way around the final lap as the tires fall off.

Big lifts in the corners from Graham on laps 3 and 4. Really ugly run. Last Row Shootout material once again, probably. Mystifying.

Why doesn't Indianapolis have safer walls around the whole track?

I have wondered that myself. If I had to guess, the drivers prefer having that extra few feet at the exit of the turn. With Indycars breaking apart a lot more than stock cars, the SAFER wall may be less effective and that extra area of usable track is ideal rather than taking it away with SAFER.

I wonder if we need a little more downforce with the new car
I think everyone is being thrown for a massive loop these past two days because it’s the first time they’ve ever had the hybrid weight in qualifying trim. Things get magnified so much when you have all the aero trimmed out and the boost turned up, and they just haven’t had that experience yet - not even in testing. It’s also been really windy the last two days and yesterday was super slick.

I wonder if some of these teams still in line pull out and put some downforce back in.

So glad Herta seems ok, what a crazy super slide upside down.
I agree , fun to see AJ Foyt at the track. I'm still all in for New.

Not the worst idea for Larson and his team to get a banker run in and see where they stand later on in the day and trim out if needed. Could very well be enough to make the show and not worry about tomorrow. Still, not a whole lot of speed from three of the four McLarens.

They went with a supercapacitor storage solution over a battery because of its ability to charge and deploy so quickly. For regen on a superspeedway like Indy there’s a paddle on the back of the steering wheel they can use to brush the brakes (they can manually adjust the rate of regen/deploy), or they can opt for a software solution that regens at a set rate as the driver lifts. It’s a big unknown as to how it’ll play out in the race since it hasn’t been run on a big oval yet.

Thanks. Good stuff.

Larson slots in nicely at P16 on his second attempt. I think they’ll be comfortable with that unless they really wanna gun for the Fast 12 for whatever reason.

Why did the gun off at 5:52pm to end today? Thought it was 6pm to end it.

Arguably the fastest car in the field has been destroyed with Scotty Mac wrecking in a big way in Fast 12 practice. Left rear was just shorn off, they’re gonna be evaluating that for sure.

Will that mean that he starts P12 or P33 if they are not prepared for the Fast 12?

I really dislike this fast crap, to me it's more made up TV drama. It's asking these teams and drivers to take unnecessary risks .
