23XI statement on not signing Charter agreement

I'm not an owner but how important are guaranteed starting spots these days? Only Talladega and Daytona have more than 40 cars showing up. I assume qualifying for those would still be done on speed. Everywhere else, get the hauler there and you're good to go.

That's because the charter system made it so it wasn't economically feasible to run as an open car. It's been said even if you win a race, outside of daytona, it's possible you would still end up losing money as a open team

I'd imagine being guaranteed a starting spot is also used for leveraging a sponsor.

I'd agree if NASCAR was talking about changing the wsy charter teams get paid vs. open cars. That's where the economic challenge is for opens. Charter teams are guaranteed a bigger slice of the pie. If only the starting spots are taken away but the payouts don't change, there's minimal effect on the chartered teams (and the opens are still screwed).

NASCAR included the guaranteed starting spot language in its Charter Agreement and demanded teams sign it.

Looks like a nothingburger to me.

Collusive behaviour … threats … boycott … coercion.

Them’s fightin’ words. Could be either side using this language.

NASCAR putting the guaranteed starting position for Charter Teams in jeopardy? An attempt to hurt the (I believe) unspoken support for 23XI and FRR by threatening a valuable aspect of having a Charter? Divide and concur much NASCAR?

According to post #2768, Polk was trying to organize boycotts of qualifying among other things. Taking away the guaranteed starting spot would eliminate that. This guy doesn't need to be in the sport. He's a loose cannon.

Again proving that Hamlin, Jordan, Polk, and Front Riw have been in the wrong the entire time. Some people should really find a sport they don't actively hate and root against the success of.
