That is truly sad news. We will never see anyone like him again. I read his autobiography, "They call me mister 500" a long time ago. It's an excellent book about more than just racing.

Just a small part of Granatelli's amazing legacy in motorsports, the gas turbine car driven by Parnelli Jones that almost won the 1967 Indy 500.

I included the 73 500 links, no doubt it was a very difficult time for Granitelli.

Some good reading in those links. I'd forgotten some of the names. I haven't heard the name, Peter Revson, in decades.

RIP Andy Granatelli. He was an innovator and a true competitor. His leaving the sport is a loss to us all.

Too bad you can't innovate with that kind of leeway anymore. 60s to the mid 80s were a great era for some crazy setups.

I was a fan of the turbine car. I sent a note to the new United Sportscar series and suggested they allow an unlimited, no points, no purse money class for those who want to try anything.

That was a great era for racing. It was the era when I was growing up and watching. There were so many fabulous cars during that time.
