Not very surprising after his recent struggles with the leg injury
What happened to his leg anyway? I don't recall hearing any details on that.

Only thing I read was that it was stress fractures from working out.
He's a former hockey player wonder if it stems from back then
From what I read on his Wikipedia he was pretty good but at 5'10 180 lbs was "too small to play at a higher level" - makes sense especially since he played defenseman (and came up in the 2000s). Was a teammate to Joe Pavelski in the USHL too apparently which is pretty neat. I knew he used to play but didn't know he had that good of a juniors career.
