Competition caution, apparently ARCA introduced them to cut pit crew costs by letting everyone come on pit road and maintaining their track position

Supposedly Parsons says it saves 3-4k for all teams not having to bring full-fledged pit crews.
That's pretty significant for the small race purses the teams receive.
