Are You Currently a Fan of Nascar Racing?

The youngsters with the wings need to be convinced to reverse the angle of their aero assist devices. Tilted back, they'll significantly lighten the rear of their high performance machines. Being lighter, the vehicles will get better fuel mileage thereby helping to save the planet.

I prefer short track racing. My interest in NASCAR has declined significantly and continues to do so. All the hype over the racing this year and it's just not been that good.

One thing that always surprised me about Homestead is the small crowd and the lack of permanent seating. I figured Nascar would want to have the ultimate lottery race where at least 80K seats were available.

I think the finale should be run at a different venue each year. Although, the thing I do like about Homestead is that it's different from every other track. But man, all it takes is one driver figuring out how to win there every time (like Harvick has with Phoenix) for this championship to become boring as hell.

Been a fan since Derrick Cope won the Daytona 500 in '89 or '90. I refer to it as my religion. I went years not giving a single thought to the championship. I've been a fan of nearly all the drivers, - at the same time. That's a large part of the appeal for me. For example, in baseball, my other true love (and forgive my polyamory), I root for one team, when they lose, which happens almost 50% of the time (hey I didn't say it was a great team) it's a big emotional let down. Football is even worse. Not for me in NASCAR, if Kyle isn't having a good day (pretty rare) I can root for Little E, Chase Elliot, or any of the 39 other drivers. Sure some races are better than others, sure I miss Benny and Ned in the booth on TNN, but my commitment hasn't wavered in 25 years. And (please put down those tomatoes) I absofreakinglutley love the chase. Love it. It's added a dimension (to the sport/event/what have you/just don't call me late for supper) that was lacking. For me. For me, and that's not debatable - it's the best thing NASCAR has done since I've been watching to improve the product, except maybe for changing back from that picnic table they had on the back of the cars for a while.

I love your attitude and you are the exact type of fan Nascar needs in the 18-49 demo. I root for a good race but not so much for a specific driver although I do like Elliott, Blaney, Kenseth, Edwards, Dale Jr and JJ but some of the drivers are just entitled punks, IMO, so while I may not root for them I don't root against them.

All this one needs is an explanation from DW, bout how the craftsman involved knew how to catch and master the yaw air when going through the corners. How the inverse tier design thing was pure brilliance....
Cause the man needs the extry grip when he is making 40 mph through the curves

I will get laughed off the boards for this especially by folks who see Nascar races in a technical manner and I get it. IMO Nascar has become too complicated as the more sophisticated things have become the more costly and less exciting some of the races have been. I think Goodyear just tosses tire formulas up in the air and hopes it picks the right one which may not be the right one when the second race of the season comes to the track. Nascar will mandate one change and it opens up a can of worms in another area and then patches that only to have another problem surface. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid and get back to the days when a goose flying overhead didn't change the aero on a car or someone farting on the front stretch didn't cause another car to wall it. For those having trouble I am being facetious but hopefully you get my point.

I would much rather see simpler cars with a top speed of 160 with more bits and pieces allowed as well as more latitude given to the CC's. There is no way an organization like HMS should have 400 engineers on the payroll or whatever ridiculous amount it is. How many engineers the David Pearson and the Wood Bros have or for that matter how many did Junior Johnson or Richard Childress employ 35 years ago?

You said you didn't watch any of the earlier races.

I saw Atlanta and California and a couple others about two months ago. And they were good races.

Problem is, they've run this package long enough now that Penske and Gibbs have it figured out. It doesn't help that they have hours and hours of practice before the races either.

Practice is killing asphalt racing IMO.

Not sure why you all are picking on the kids that build/buy a wing for their car. At least they have an interest in the car!!! A lot of kids today don't even get their drivers license. It's the only car they can afford. You have to give them credit for being on our side!
It's not my cup of tea either but i can remember the time when the only modification I could afford was to take some LEDAED gasoline(that might explain a lot) and clean my oil covered engine and paint it with some pretty Chevy orange. All 283 cubic inches of that bad boy SCREAMED after that!!!
I am still a NASCAR fan, but there are so many things that have gone the wrong way in the last 15 years and 5 months that I'm not sure it will ever come back. :(

I guess I still am, but, my interest is dwindling with each passing week. Championship is a joke, phantom debris cautions are a joke, and I don't have NBCSN or FS1. Plus, my favorite driver (Gordon) retired and I have no interest in finding a replacement.

As for me...... reading these posts , I have to agree with 95 percent of the posts. I'm still a fan but with greatly diminished interest. No longer do I plan my weekend around the races. Now, if it's handy I watch or listen but it's not a life or death situation. I started following it in 1964 on Wide World of Sports. As you all know.. just clips from races run several weeks previous. I kinda' lost interest in the mid 70's to the early 80's. Bill Elliott got me interested again. To me.... the 80's and 90's were the highlight... I continued following closely until about 10 years ago. I noticed then that I really wasn't as interested as much. Brian was making too many changes to what his Dad and Grandaddy had pioneered.... and it just kept getting worse to the point that we now have a Champion who manages to finish ahead of 3 others in the final race. THAT'S NOT A CHAMPION. I am a proponent of consistency.

One posted mentioned earlier. ... ''Why would someone who is not a fan or is not interested in Nascar be on a Nascar board''.........

Well..... as I mentioned, I am not a diehard Nascar fan like I used to be..... but..... I have been on the boards for many years, enjoy the comraderie , really like to read everyones take on what is happening and give my limited perspective. The thing I enjoy the most is when posts are made about races and drivers from years back...... I love reading about history and recalling how I used to be so in love with Nascar.... and that's not to be disparaging to any folks who are enjoying it to the limit now.......

I wish I could get the zeal back that a lot of you folks have...... It was great.......

Beautiful post my friend. Do you remember back in 1985 when Bill developed an oil leak at the Alabama International Speedway and had to come into the pits and get a loose oil line fixed. Bill came out almost 2 laps down and through speed got back on the lead lap and through speed caught leader Cale and went on to win? What a beauty! No pit road speeds, no plates, no free passes, no wave arounds and no gimmicks. The more I think about things like that the more I just shake my head and mourn the passing of what was a great series and a wonderful past time. Nascar had it all back then.

Yep........ made up 5 miles under green.....!!!!!!!! That woke me up and got my attention back......... I was sittin' in a bar in Montana and the race was on........ :)

Like a few others here, I too started watching NASCAR in the early 90's when I was kid( so I am in that important 18-49 demo), watching races with my Dad, started out being a fan of Irvan. Never cared too much about who won the championship either( not that I was happy that JJ won six though) , I just loved NASCAR as a whole, and still do to this day, but that doesn't mean I am happy with the changes and how things are now. NASCAR has always been a big part of my life, getting a once in a life opportunity that most fans dream of, so I got to be more than just a fan for short time, so I cant imagine what life would be like without NASCAR. As much as it pains the wife, I do plan things around races. Far as I am concerned, if I am breathing, I am NASCAR fan, for better or worse.

Luckily for me, my wife demands we plan things around the races!

I'm losing interest. There seem to be more negatives than positives lately. The chase?- Unexplained penalties?- single file racing from start to finish and 1 leader? Perfectly timed cautions for "debris"? Water bottles on the track that obviously came from a race car? Nascar can tell you how fast a car is going anywhere on the track, but not on pit road, why is that? 4 lug nuts is o.k during the race but not at the beginning or end? Competition isnt very close anymore. The excitement level seems to have vanished the last few years. One team dominance isnt fun to watch either- even if it were my favorite drivers--boring--. Saturday xfinity racing is totally out for me. I will not watch another one till they make some changes to it. Some of the announcers are like fingernails on a chalk board. Some not all. I spend Sundays in my mancave working on stuff, most times the TV is on but I dont pay too much attention to it. A few years back, we'd have cook outs and watch the race-- The NFL is about a month away, the cook outs will be back on . I used to go to 2 races a year, even supported my favorite drivers products/sponsors, the last few years I've turned down free tickets to nascar events. It has changed and it didnt need to.

Thank God that jackman John House survived getting hit and hurled through the air yesterday on pit lane at Pocono. Intensive care unit at hospital, prognosis is that he will recover.

Life (and racing ) were so much simpler then . Nothing but the ' hat dance ' in Victory Lane to look forward to . And ..thankfully ...no post race engine teardown . Great day for us Awesome Bill fans .

Would post race teardowns have been a problem for Bill ?
