Aric Almirola announces he will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing

SHR cars in the playoffs by year:
2014: 2
2015: 2
2016: 3
2017: 2
2018: 4
2019: 3
2020: 4
2021: 2
2022: 2
2023: 1

This is the first year Harvick was the only driver at SHR to make the playoffs.

The decline in Chase Briscoe's performance should send some alarm bells up. Maybe it's a sophomore slump and he'll rebound next year but I would still be worried. You can say the same for Austin Cindric over at Penske too. Something is going on with young talent at Ford right now.

Preece isn't setting the world on fire either in 24th place. I don't see Berry or Gragson improving the roster strength.

How many of those numbers are inflated by single wins in a car that did basically little to nothing the rest if the year? Almirola , Custer and Briscoe come to mind right away. No matter how you slice it, four wins in the last three years (and none at all this year) for a four car team is nothing to get excited about. Their announced 2024 lineup has ONE career win. They are going to need some veteran leadership at the track over there, and who better than Tony, and we KNOW that's not happening, at least on a consistent basis.

They haven’t been a powerhouse team since 2020 and I can see 2024 being their most underwhelming year yet.

Almirola rules? lol. 2 wins in 6 years,
If Gragson in fact does join the team and performs within the range of his other three teammates it would be acceptable.
I am just wondering if SHR only recently became aware themselves of the vacancy and has limited options. If true maybe Gragson is just a one yeat band-aid.

I doubt that Smithfield is thrilled with the prospect, maybe they will pick up one of the other three drivers to represent them if they stay.

I am posting my assumptions I haven't followed this story and I need to catch up on the details.

I believe I read that Smithfield is out.

Preece, Briscoe, and Almirola all have totally different backgrounds and different experience levels. Yet they all run together every week. Sometimes it's 25th. Sometimes it's 15th. Harvick runs about 10 spots better. All cars qualified top 15 this week. Too me, this consistency screams car, not driver. There isn't an odd man out.

Also Harvick ran circles around the other 3 this season. Either Harvick is a generational talent that drove a 25th place car to 10th the last 34 weeks, or he was getting the best equipment there.

It's a resource and a Ford problem. Briscoe is talented. Preece is talented. Almirola is a 17 year veteran. Harv is a veteran and talented. SHR was just very off this year.

Austin Cindric didn’t really perform last season either though.

SHR is off big time. I really thought Ryan Preece would be better than this. At this point, he’s probably just keeping the seat warm for Hailie Deegan anyway.

That is probably true because you have said numerous times that you don't like the direction NASCAR is going so you don't watch that many races anymore. ;)

But it doesn't change the hact that Tony hasn't been at the track that much lately.

Tony has a very nice jet so he could be at a NASCAR track and then at an NHRA track a few hours later. So, most of us don't really know just how much time he actually spends with his teams on a weekday at the shop or on a weekend at the track. But if a few of you here want to blame it on Tony, knock yourself out. But when his teams start clicking off wins again, I will be waiting to see what excuses you will come up with then.

True but Cindric’s average finish was 16.3 last year. This year he’s at 21.6. That’s a noticeable drop.

SHR now needs to replace AB AND Smithfield so it’s a great time to be a ride buyer.

Ok, keep your head in the sand, makes no difference to me.

I dont think Tonys presence or lack is the issue. SHR won two championships with the Felon's stuff.
Just go back to the proven formula and quit worrying about who is the top dog within the camp.

We’re getting close to the end of the line. Year end stats will reveal which teams were competitive.
Something is missing at SHR.
Is it the drivers, the crew chiefs, the individual teams, leadership?
I’m not sure what is missing.
Something is missing.
Kevin won because he’s Kevin. He won in crap RCR cars.

You are a Toyota guy, so you should be happy if something is missing.:)

My bad...I thought you were a Toyota guy.
I’m a Toyota guy at this time because there are no solid Ford drivers (cept for Kevin.)
I wish SHR had better teams.
Not a fan of Roush, SHR…I like Roger Penske but I don’t support any of his Cup drivers.
I’m anti-HMS so I gotta land somewhere 😬
Been a Kyle Busch fan since Rusty retired. I didn’t care what he drove. RCR is garbage. RCR died in 2001.
As a little boy, I started out a Pearson fan, cuz that was my dad’s guy. Moved on to Davey, then he got killed. I went with Rusty after that. Rusty lost his nerve in 2001 when Dale died. Then I saw this Kyle Busch kid. I don’t really like the direction the sport is headed. I lose interest every year. I DVR everything now and burn through the FF button.
I miss the really good racing. Today doesn’t compare.
